A quick question 2 anyone who can help me,,
Just wondering if doing 3 sets of 15-20 push ups everyday will do anything for you or is it a complete waste of time? |

I'm sure if you did it everyday, after awhile it would do something.
What, I'm not quite sure. Speaking of push-ups, my friend has failed the fitness test for the NSW police force twice as they said her nose, or at least her boobs should touch the ground when she does push-ups. But we can't find anywhere in their guidelines or anywhere else that says the same thing.

Well if you start with a 10k run,hi rep low weight routine you will be on the way to getting fit.
To get really fit you must combine a complete aerobic and anerobic programme with the weights, then you will be on the way.

It will certainly help.
Do it for 3 months. The only real prob with noticing is, it's a gradual thing so you may not notice unless you either take a pic or get a skin fold test on your shoulders n back. In short.. you wont look like a gym junkie but you will have more toned arms and a bit more back muscle.

Any exercise will always help, but I agree with John that you need to combine weights and cardio to get real results, although a 10k run might be stretching the fun a bit too far I think.

If its just for general weight loss then combine it with a 30min walk or 20 min runand some sit-up. I use a week of doing just that to get rid of any excess fat I may have gained at the time. That said I have a high metabolism and can loose weight quicker than most of my mates. After stopping going to the gym I lost 7 kg (of muscle) in 6 months.

When I feel like getting fit (once every 6 moths or so) I'll do as many push ups as I can until my arms are literally burning. Then wait 90 seconds, go down and do 5 less than that. Wait 2 minutes, go down and do 5 less than that.
Then roll over and not do it for a few months. That's how I read it somewhere anyway, and the PT at basic training had no issues with me doing it like that. |

I do 2x30 incline a night plus 60 sit ups. Once I get up to 30 push ups, I go back to 20 reps, but up the incline. My are now about 70cm off the ground. Works wonders on your back. Pitty the love handles remain :S. Damn beer.

If you are only trying to lose weight and not build muscle, forget the pushups and situps. Go for a brisk walk for 15 min when you first get up, before your first meal. Eat more protein rich foods, substitute some meals with a protein drink, but amke sure you consume a meal or protein drink every 3 hours. COUNT CALORIES!!! that is the only way you will lose weight. Some people may stumble upon the correct amount and will lose weight, but most poeple will need to count them.
If you are trying to build muscle, forget about the pushups and situps, get a routine from and EXPERIENCED who has built muscle and lost weight, PT's these days dont have a clue, all they know is how to perform cardio, mainly for women. At the end of the day if you do a few pushups and situps there will be no benifit except a little more strength, no weight loss benifit whatsoever. If you do lost you will build muscle and burn a LITTLE amount of fat, but the muscle you will build will be only on the front of your shoulders, a bit on your lats and a bit on your back. YOU WILL LOOK OUT OF PROPORTION. If you want some tips, let me know I can help, I have been there, I have done that, I know what to do. I would love to lend a hand!! |
