*shudder* although it can compress video like theres no tomorrow, I'll give it that.

I use 'Edit Studio' for most of my stuff as it is simple and does basically everything necessary. Sometimes Premiere does come in handy, but I reckon that's overdoing it really. I got a free full-version on a cd from a magazine once about 2 years ago and it's still a good program, lol, so I'm sure you can 'find' a copy of it somewhere in cyberspace. The version I have is version 2, and there's a 5 out at the moment, so a few things may have changed though

That could be a bit difficult, seeing as MNs computer is running Windows 98.

The only ones I can think of are commercial packages, asides from VirtualDub (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/v...0.zip?download) which might do the job, it's worth a try. It can be a little tricky to work out how to use, so if there are any questions, feel free to ask.

Ahh, yes, VirtualDub is good, although if you're not used to those sort of programs can be a little daunting to use, so I'll write a step-by-step guide.
  1. Start up VirtualDub.
  2. Load the first video file (File, Open video file...), wait for it to finish loading.
  3. Press Ctrl+right arrow (or select End from the edit menu).
  4. Select Append AVI segment from the File menu, then open the next video and wait for it to finish loading.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until finished.
  6. Now, choose Compression... from the video menu, or press Ctrl+P and select which video codec you wish to use. If this sounds like gibberish to you, just choose DivX from the list and hit ok.
  7. Now, ensure there is a dot to the left of Direct stream copy under the Audio menu.
  8. Finally, select Save as AVI... from the file menu, or just press F7, give the new video a name and click the Save button.

It may take a while, depending on the speed of the computer and how big the videos are, but sooner or later you'll end up with a video with all the videos linked together, all ready to show people.

Hope I've made sense, if you need any more help, just ask

Err, not that I'm aware of, sorry :(

But for a free program, it's pretty good.

Once all the videos are combined together, it'll make it much easier to add titles and things like that in another program. You said music has already been added, is that right?

I use different apps thesedays, but im fairly sure it is able to import a bitmap (bmp) as a single frame, could use mspaint to create the image and import, failing that, if he's planning on burning the movie to dvd/vcd nero vision will create them using the wizard
