Default whats the story with CARSGUIDE . typhoon

today 28th of may ssatarday carsguide has a story on hot cars it has writeups on the wrx ,evo VIII ,ford xr6t, xr8. GT, SS COM, monaro, HSV clubbie, and TYPHOON. its figures show the typhoon to be the slowest of all of these cars. it claims the xr6t has a time of 0-100 in 5.91sec 0-400 14.14
then states that the typhoon suffers due to its wieght ie 90kg heavier than xr6t. giving figures of 0-100 in 6.4 sec 0-400 14.64. :

I dont know what the case is here, but often the turbo cars are run in ludicrisly warm weather (due to large open areas, ie airport stripes etc)

Or the blokes cant drive.

thats weird, i would highly doubt that 90kg would really SLOW it down considering it has another 100nm !
But yeah it was probably 10+ degrees hotter than the XR6t

i havent heard one good media comment regarding its performance yet . even since the clutch fix. and quite frankly dont understand this due to its power and torque figures.also media attention to this vehicle is very lapsed at best .perhaps it shouldv'e been made by HSV maybe then it would get some praise. $$$$$$$$$

Personally, I wouldn't wipe my *** with carsguide. I'd tend to believe even Motor and Wheels before them! So yeah, wouldn't pay too much attention to those figures.

You’ve hit the nail square on the head there mate.

Cheers, Danny

It's not the first time I've heard of disappointing performance from the Typhoon unfortunately.

well instead of reading what some pen pusher reckons he can get out of the car, just have a look at the times people have got here from their own cars.

Maybe they should let a Holden driver test it. I reckon the holden driver will make it go fast

Those are MOTOR figures for a BA Mk1 XR6 Turbo and an FPV F6 Typhoon. The best magazine printed Typhoon figures are 5.73 0-100km/h, 14.02 1/4 mile, MOTOR again, but they give a little note that it was done by an FPV driver on an FPV test track.

The XR6 Turbo is faster then 14.14, even in magazines. Street machine got 13.87 @ 164km/h out of a stock BA MkII auto XR6 Turbo. As for why the Typhoon is slow.. can anyone say torque restriction software? Gotta protect its feeble rear end and the feeble performance of the GT along with it. Can't have a cheaper car demolish their hero car, can we?

Road tests in mags are all just an example of what you could get out of the car.

Its not necessarilly the best time the car could do just the best time they could get in probably a short time available to them on the strip. You will find with a powerful manual they may not have the time or experience to get the best from it.

Also some mages to best time some do two average with a pasenger and 1/2 tank of fuel etc.

I ran mine on the track stock and in an auto leaving it to do all the work with only the launch stall speed being different I ran from 16.8 to 17.1. So for me there was a good three tenths difference betewen runs. No with a manual you could get an even bigger variation. Then theres the usual temp and humidity differences which make a bigger difference to Turbo cars as well.

The F6 is probably quicker over the 400m than an XR6T but not by a hell of a lot. Say 3-4 tenths max. On average i would bet that stock XR6 manuals will get mid to low 14's and stock F6 will get high 13's to flat 14 second 400m times. Always exceptions of course in driver and car
