I am 19, have 2 licence loses and 1 car write-off. I pay $82 a month.

The secret is I have my car in my Dad's name and insured in his as well wth me as the second driver.

Not a really big secret, i think you will find alot of young people do it this way, but you can get caught out with it and have your insurance void.

Not so much void the insurance, but I have seen people caught out and prior to paying the claim the insured has had to pay the difference of what the premium should have been. It happens quite often. Usual rule of thumb for what is considered a regular driver would be someone that drives a vehicle more than 12 times a year, that is once a month, any more than that and the premium should be based on the youngest driver. It's incredibly easy to catch people out, To lodge a claim you need the insured person to authorise the lodgment of the claim, and it will usually be the younger driver that says but it's my car.

That was my understanding and why I only insured the car in my name. This was a good 20 years ago though.
