Default XR4 beater cheap!

I noticed a brand new, in the box, 2.3 litre Duratec engine in the March edition of Just Parts magazine for $1750!

There is no replacement for displacement. Now whack that in a standard Fiesta, install individual throttle bodies, and scare the hell out of a few XR4 owners!

Or bolt it straight into your XR4 and blow it ;)

Will this engine bolt straight into a Zetec? Or are there a few other mods that need to be looked at first?

It will need mods, to fit the 2L motor into the XR4 Ford had to tilt the engine to squeeze it into the engine bay without having to resort to costly bonnet modifications like a "bulge" similar to what some of the Falcons have.

They also modified the gearbox by shot-peening some of the gears to make them stronger so the gearbox could withstand the extra torque of the larger engine.

To fit the 2.3L engine directly into a standard Fez, just off the top of my head you would need uprated engine mounts, replacement springs and struts, stronger gearbox (XR4 one at the very least) and a very understanding insurance company, no doubt there's probably more if anyone else can think of anything?

I think the swap would be easier on an XR4, the 2.3L is meant to be the same overall dimensions as the 2L isn't it? Having said that, using XR4 mounts, etc would probably do the trick for the non-XR4 guys.

I know there are a couple of 2.3 litre implants in the UK into Fiesa ST's with trick throttle bodies. Very hot

Jamsport
specialise in 2.3 conversions, as well as 2.5 strokers & supercharging.
They charge £1997 just for the engine.
