I was wondering if anyone can help me with some information. I have a Mk2 escort diff which has disc brakes on it. It's a 3.77 ratio and appears to be standard except for the disc's. They discs are solid (no vents,groove or holes) and the calipers are genuine ford (stamped) and look exactly like the front calipers on the mk2.
I have been told that it would have been brought into the country like this, Does anybody know if this is true or would know anything more about it? I am planning on putting it into a 2 door Mk2 which I will be getting my hands on at the end of the year (hopefully). Would I have to modify anything for it to work or would I just have to fit a brake Bias of some sort? |

a bias valve or pedal box will just about be essential to get the best results out of putting the disc brake rear end in
I have never heard of a conversion using escort front calipers but anything is possible. One issue I can see if using the front escort calipers would be brake knock off unless it is a full floater diff When you get some pics of it try to get a pic of the mounting plates... are they welded or bolted? I have always done bolted conversions as I think there was some rules that if they were bolted on you didnt need an eng certificate for them (I am going back a lot of years - someone else might know more) there are a million different setups out there that people have used - usually its what people have lying around - I use Saab discs and matching rear calipers on my hilux diff for example cause they were lying around when we were doing it, my other diff had cutt down ventilated volvo discs & cortina front floating calipers with springs inside to help prevent knock off but hey lets see what you got first |

Thanks for the info. I was told by a somewhat reliable source that it might have come from Ford like that. It's currently in storage waiting to be reconditioned to go into my next car. It might take some time to get to it to be able to take some decent photo's of it.

Ford never made a disc brake axle. Most likely one thats been built up and used front calipers. Discs could be off anything as theres a pretty big offset needed on most of these conversions.
