A friend and I were wondering what the cable on the sides of extendable trailers(semis) is for??? The cable looks similar to clothes line and sometimes has a spring attaching it to the frame of the trailer...

I should explain myself a lil bit better. The wire is like a bike chain wire. looks like stainless steel, runs the length of only the extendable trailers.

You mean general freight? I work with tankers and all I can think of is for the rails that lift up when you climb up ontop.
