After my Escort sitting with no differential under it for 5+ months after popping it the 5th time, I've decided it needs to go again. Escort diffs are now as rare as rocking horse poo and I'm having a tough time finding one. Last night i sized up a diff from a mates datsun, everything looked the same. Ripped it out, took it to my house and sure enough, the length and leaf mounts were the same. Noticed the yolks are different, no problem, take mine off, easy. The datsuns, not so. Even with a rattle gun the yolk will not budge and we are getting more than a bit annoyed. Question number one, how do i go about getting it off? Question two, anyone know of any cars that share the same diff as an Escort? And three, does anyone have an Escort diff CENTRE for sale? Cheers.

Could it be that the bolt you are having trouble with is reverse threaded? Can't help with the rest sory.

i would give the pinion nut a good drowning with penetrant. crc,wd40,etc, then find a way to hold the pinion,big stillsons?(make a tool if if you have to) then get your socket bar and a bit of pipe on to it for leverage.

Heat the f. out of the nut with a gas torch. I believe the rear end out of XJ Cherokee/Wrangler could fit under the esky but you may have to double check on that.

Capri and Cortina 2L have the same diff centre, but they are rare too. Really, the best way is to fit the Hilux diff. The one to use is the 4WD as is a bit narrower. May still need to be cut down, have brakes fitted and converted to whatever stud pattern you want to use, and transfer the mounts from your old housing. Since the standard ratio is 4.3 you might need a 5speed. On the other hand, they are 31 spline axles, banjo, LSD. I've never heard of the datsun diff being interchangeable, which one?
