Default k&N Air Filter?

I have a XR6 '04 is it worth putting in a K&N filter?
Is there more power and better economy?

I wouldnt bother personally but your going to get 1 of 3 responses:
1) yes buy it, you can get better air flow and maybe 1 or 2 rwkw out of them
2) dont buy them as if not oiled correctly they do more damage than good, lpus their filtering effeciency is less than that of paper
3) buy it but only coz they are re-usable. No real peformance increase in them.

i believe in option 2 and 3, have heard of oil getting on MAF's and have seen a few independant studies on air filters which show K & N aint all that with peformance increase compared to normal paper or even foam.
just my opinion

i have an AU I6, i bought one and its great!
i only notice the smallest power increase, but i really bought it for the long run, pretty much wont need to change it, just re-oil her up.

also, along with my tikford intake, it sounds good when ya give it to it, gives it a good induction noise!

cheers
rob

I did gain a small increase in rwkw's by fitting the K&N pannel filter.

after reading a few of those rice mags thay recon the el/ef filter box and filter flows and filters better than any. i have used the like of the foam unifilter/finer filter style filter great for filtering dirt and dust best ya can get but useless for peformance. and some of those k&n style filters you can see throu. as for peformance if you recon ya can tell the diffrance good on ya .
