We will see it though, but in a Cadillac skin, next years Cadillac ATS with 3.6 V6 and turbo 4.

Why bother? As much as I would like to see it, it wouldn't be worth engineering it when the Mondeo is there.
Not to mention that the vast majority of drivers apparently couldn't care less what end of the car is doing the driving. The percentage of drivers who are truly interested in getting the tail out is so small it isn't statistically significant. Also, given the quality of front wheel drive engineering, most drivers couldn't even tell which end was doing the driving anyway.

I would imagine that whether a car is front wherl or rear wheel drive is probably the last thing they ask about at the dealership...if they bother asking at all. It just doesn't worry people today.

Either FoA should build Mondeo here with Falcon or, look at next gen Falcon becoming a true mid sizer
with I-4 and V6 petrol/diesel engine combos and have Mustang and Taurus as imports to fill the other niches...

Whether it's hard to engineer or market is not my concern. I am NOT the vast majority of drivers. RWD matters to me.

This web site is all about "can't do".

I would buy a reasonably priced performance oriented mid size 5-seat RWD car.

Lets put together a group buy and see if we can get Ford to make it....
A lot of people on here diffidently haven't driven a modern performance front wheel drive car, the grip and drive you can get out of a front wheel drive is unbelievable.

I believe like yourself that the future of Falcon lies with being a smaller and lighter car, one that shares
a lot with Mustang enabling compact external size but still a surprising amount of internal room.
I think Ford could steal Holden's lunch by turning Falcon into the midsized car that Holden really wanted,
the Torana and thus open up a space for Taurus above it and Mustang in the pot as well.

This would allow the majority of Falcons to be supplied as I-4 Ecoboost and diesles while still allowing
V6, V6 Ecoboost and V8 options in higher series versions, a car for everyone but not quite as large as now...

Since we're posting wish lists that don't make any business sense and won't generate a profit.

I want ford to make a 20ft wheelbase 3 axle V12 quad turbo hatchback and call the the Ford Homer.

Mondeo is about the same size as a Falcon.
It's not a 'medium' car. The motor is though.

Mondeo sedan (hatch)
Length: 4,778 mm
Width: 1,886 mm

FG Falcon Sedan
Length: 4,967 mm
Width: 1868 mm

The mondeo is actually wider, but quite a bit shorter

Mondeo has less hip, shoulder and rear leg room than Fg Falcon.

maybe downsize the Falcon a little bit in every dimension, maybe it would drop 150odd kg in the process. Just saying because in my opinion VE Commo's and BA onwards Falcon are just plain plain massive..Did they really need to upsize from the VT/AU era? I don't see why.

Roll back to the safety equipment you had in the AU and VT and you'll probably be back near that weight again...

Nothing to do with complaining about Ford, or knocking the idea of a smaller rear drive car, it's ignoring reality to not face the fact that companies don't build volume cars to suita small minority of buyers...they do what's profitable and sells the most cars. They can get away with building FPV's for a small number of buyers (in the big scheme of things) because they're based on an existing model that has had all the development done on it already.

It's a whole different ball game to engineer an entirely new type of vehicle from the ground up, just to suit a small number of buyers who claim to prefer a rear drive car, even when, as has repeatedly been shown, Buyers today don't care which end is doing the driving.

There used to be an old WA beer ad :"They said you'd never make it..."
I didn't know they were singing about these Forums!

RWD/Midsize/Aussie/bodystyle choice/drivetrain choice: hell yes.

Isn't that what the Mustang is? A medium sized rear wheel drive V6 or V8. Sounds ideal.

I think the reality is starting to sink in - the next generation of Falcon will be based on the CD4 platform and come in FWD or AWD flavours with a choice of EcoBoost 4 or V6 options.

Those who crave a V8 RWD fix from Ford will need to look to the next Mustang which should have IRS by that stage

Yes it does, but not for the $87,000 that FoA were selling GTs for 10 years ago.
IMO, if Ford were to build Falcon and Mustang as con joined twins,
we could have V6/V8 Mustangs for similar price as XR6/XR8....
