Default Hmm .. Falcon 4.0L in AMC Javelin?

http://www.justauto.com.au/justcars/...m_position=133

Quote:
1968 AMC JAVELIN-Ford SST. Fully body restore fitted completely. BA Falcon 4 ltr auto trans. All Falcon dash & interior. Air, computer, trim, dash etc., solid. Ford rear axle, BA front end. Drives like new, 16 inch wheels.
I hope the reference to "Ford" in the description isn't because the thinks it's actually a Ford?

Might make technical sense (base Javelins had 232 6-cyls), but not sure I actually like this conversion ...

Would be a pretty good sleeper if it had the XR6T running gear...

The Javelin had up to a 390 CID V8 in it, who puts a 4.0 Ford engine in a classic.....

It's like putting a red six in a Camaro....

I've seen a first generation Firebird with a 202 in it .. Unfortunately that's close enough.

The stock BA 4.0L would probably run rings around a stock 290 or 343 powered first generation Javelin (390 might be different) .. Primarily because of the antiquated BW auto .. Although a manual would make things interesting. Could have been a nice resto-mod (even with the 6), but trying to fit all the other stuff was just going too far. :(

It's a tight speeze:

.. and a neat job of the interior .. *BUT* .. probably just that step to far in the project unfortunately.

It's all a pretty neat job .. just a shame it wasn't a turbo

I wonder why he didn't paint the engine bay as well? Bit of a let down seeing a white engine bay especially when he went to all that effort to put that motor in.

Interesting engineering. If it had a V8 and more detailing it would probably be getting more interest - like Marshall Perrons AU into Mustang convertible

Wonder how well the front suspension works. Might be a good thing for Mustang/Cougar front suspension conversion

Needs a Supercharger, other than that it looks pretty cool.

Why do that to a Javelin.
JP80 is correct they came with a very nice 390 with 4 barrel and twin exhaust.
There were even a few that had the works 401 in them.
There is no way you can compare a 4.0L 6 with that engine.
The 390 was a much better engine that either the Chev or the Ford engines and it was a small block too. A very nice engine that I wish I owned

Because its his car and he can do what he wants with it perhaps?

It looks like its has been done quite well, and seems to be a case of running out of time/money/other to finish properly. And who knows, the car might have been a bucket to start of with...ie no engine, trashed etc.

Its not like he has done something completely un-forgivable as that "AU coupe"

I dunno, I like it and don't... Are you actually paying for the work, or a Javelin.. Unique though, kudos for effort.

And is it even a Javelin anymore...or an AMC Stick?

Standard engine in a Javelin was 232 cu in IL6 with 145hp = 108kw. Most popular engine was the 290 V8 producing 225hp = 168kw. The 390 was rated at 315hp or 235kw.

BA IL6 is 182kw or 244 hp. With turbo all the way to 270kw or 362hp. Interesting comparison. Couldn't find any torque figures on the AMC engines

That engine would look fantastic with throttle body injection and chrome ram tubes curving up over the valve covers

First generation Javelin suspension was somewhat agricultural using trunnions in the front end .. Switched to double balljoint in 1970 .. So any modifications using BA parts are probably a significant improvement.

My first true love (1979) was a girl in WA called Dianne Ludlow, her uncle was Ben Ludlow (think speedway!) and at the time he owned the only wrecking yard in Aus for Ramblers (AMC) he bled Rambler........but he earnt most of his coin slotting Ford 6s and 8s into them......i had a beautiful Hornet with a 351c to drive for a short time, also a 302c Matador wagon which my cousin still has....

Ben competed in Ramblers at the speedway for years, i especially loved his Gremlin....
