I recently did a trip up the coast and I saw 7.8L on the dash and a theorectical DTE of 720ks. I was very happy with that mileage

Around town I get 10.5 - 11.5L.

Best I've achieved, all open road

FG XR6, 7.2l/100km
BA Fairmont Ghia 4.0, 7.5
AU Futura, 7.6
BA Fairlane 5.4, 9.0

And I was most impressed with a rental 6.0 Caprice I had, 8.2l/100km over 700km 99k average speed. Keep your cramped **** boxes, the price to pay to drive something that can cover big distances effortlessly isn't much more.

My old EB Tow wagon averaged 19.7 over the 6 years I owned it. had it at ford and others trying to work out its high consumption, nothing wrong!. Now the AU Tow ute is slightly better averaging 14.6 in the 14 months Ive had it though has recorded mid 9s on trips while empty 13's towing the race car.
I have feet of lead obviously.
Econo box will run sub 7's all day everyday 4 up but wont tow hmmm.

I drove from Canberra to Campbelltown in my G8, and averaged 8.6l/100. Not bad for a barge!

Did you or have you changed your O2 sensor, i couldnt get my el ghia down past 15l per 100klms, changed that and highway runs are now 9.5lper 100.

I didnt on the EB, no one diagnosed it as a problem, and it was tested!
The AU is about to get a new motor so new 02 might be worth a go, but it could be because its only got 4 working cylinder and 2 half working ones.
Not a major issue as the towing is the cheap part of the weekend and the additional cost pales into insignificance...

I no it's not the same trip but I did Coffs Harbour to Brisbane in my 2009 G6E turbo with average fuel Econ of 7.4L/100
Also done it in my 2007 VE SSV and it's average was 8.5L/100

I am getting 10-11/100km in my el 5L wagon combined driving (city and hwy) Now if I actually drove it gently and it had a better tune, I have no doubt that it would be more economical but even as it is I am still rather happy with it, especially when I find a hybrid owner driving under the speed limit.

My 300c (v6 petrol) is brilliant on the highway.... i can get over 800kms a tank, averaging 8-9L per 100kms. Thats sitting at 105km/h with the adoptive cruise control on. At 105km/h, the 300c sits about 1300rpm (8th gear)

Around town, totally different story... lol! A 1950kg car without passagers in stop start traffic will see about 13L per 100km/h.

Still better then my BA XR6 4spd which saw 15L per 100kms combined. But ba falcons were known to eat fuel. But i am sure the fg would be quiet good with the 6spd zf.

I don't have any exact figures, but I was massively impressed with the economy I got from an FG series 1 XR6 with just over 100,000km on the clock that I hired in January this year in New Zealand.

The first part of the road trip I went right around the East Cape with just my girlfriend in the car, so unsurprisingly given all the bends, economy wasn't so great on that stage...

But then I drove from Wellington to Mt Maunganui which was around 550km, with 4 people plus luggage, several foot to the floor overtakes but otherwise relatively sedate driving. At the end of the trip the DTE was showing 250km+ which gave a theoretical range of 800km! Absolutely insane economy for a big six I reckon.

My 2009 FG XR6 is averaging 11.5l/100km over the last four years of mostly city driving. I am very happy with this figure.
