What a great looking car (pics at NZ show, below)!
Young fella and I have been going nuts over the Ken Block Gymkhana 7 black Mustang custom, and these new ones just look so right! Everything is falling into line for Ford America...

Been in Seattle for the week for work. Came out of Microsoft and this mustang was parked next to our bag of **** rental. Surprised and happy how small it is. No bigger than the Cruz. I get better acquainted in a few hours, picking up a mustang in Hawaii.

Also spied a red one with boss 302 decals. Then this thing has been getting around the streets of Redmond, seen it many times. Sounds very very tough too.

Looks like they've wound the power back a bit on the Aus V8 Models http://www.ford.com.au/cars/new-must...s/spec-options

Wound the power back "a bit" ? With a lousy 303 kw, which is a massive 21.5 kw (6.6%) down from the standard 324.5 kw S550 5.0 Coyote engine, we have been seriously Ripped OFF !! Same goes for the Torque loss with a 17Nm loss.

I wonder if it can be fixed with a simple $850 X4 Flash Tune, or if they have had to strangle it with a "politically correct" restrictive exhaust system to comply with our equally restrictive Nanny State wingers. Although, the US Mustang is 324.5 Kw (435 Hp) even in California, which would make our standards even more ridiculous if that were the sole reason for the loss of performance.

With nearly 200kg less mass than a FGX XR8 the power to weight figures should be similar.

I'm not overjoyed either but its hardly the end of the world

A lot of Mustang GT buyers (on this forum anyway) will likely be replacing the exhaust and tuning the car regardless. That will free up the missing power and then some.

I'd say it has more to do with the exhaust regulations we have here compared to the US.
We're far too restrictive. Over there they sound so much better and louder.

Apparently it all comes down to how they rate the power, as others have said. http://www.caradvice.com.au/324004/f...for-australia/

As if anyone buying a V8 Mustang gives a **** about standard power!
I think everyone will do some mods for power. Full exhaust / blower kit / turbo kit ect ect.

Using the mustang as an example and how Ford rate their power here in Australia, one can assume that the HSV VF GTS should not have keep the American power rating of 430kw?

All depends on the initial pricing - the V8 is fully specced so it wont land here cheap and wont be selling cheap. So all depends on how much coin you have left over for goodies. Wouldnt it have been great if some of these aftermarket kits could have been fitted up by dealers , ensuring warranty protection etc....

What I suspect is we're getting the Euro spec, with quieter exhaust that drops power to 413hp/308kw DIN.
When the Euro spec gets here its rated to SAE where power drops again to 406hp/303kw

And the 14% drop in the A$ exch rate against the US$ over the last 7months won't help matters either.

Sounds like it is going to be a quick car in its own right.

Honestly I hope they price it sharp to get into the entry level market.

Think of it has a way to get people to upgrade to the V8 come the next purchase.
