Yes that would make sense. Is valve body disassembly required to remove the screens?

I might give the local auto trans shop a ring on Tuesday as well.

As you have already worked out, two of the originals used as S1 & S2 had filters and others did not.

Replacement ones are all Bosch P/N - 0 260 120 029 with filters. The other number on the solenoid body is 0593-640076. They are suppose to have better O ring seals and filters.

I replaced mine last year, all five of them and S5.

So when replacing the ones without the mesh filter as part of the solenoid, is there a filter in the valve body that needs to be removed before install?
