Question question about double din cd player for AU2

i have been considering getting a new cd player for my AU2 XR6 and i rekon just replacing the old double din with a new one that has mp3 playback (which i think everyone needs!) but a couple of weeks ago i was at jb hi fi and the guy that i spoke to said that no other double din cd players will fit in the au's? is this true or he is just full of it?

full of it I reckon. Only thing I can see stopping another DD unit going in is the little bits down the bottom corners. But even those I dont think will matter. I think he just means wont fit to the shape of the console. You may find a littl bit of squaring up of corners is in order...

Or just get a single DIN unit and get one of those $10 single DIN pockets that fit under it. That's what most people have done.

I'll be getting the Stinger controller for my Pioneer unit ... I've just been too lazy to get it.

Has anyone ripped a dodgy/broken DD unit out of their AUII/III and doesn't need/want it (or will sell it cheap?)

Got the same response re: not fitting.

They just needed to grind a little bit out of the centre section and it fit no problem.

It's more to do with the shape of the front panel.
After market DD players are much flatter down the front, where the ford one's are curved at the bottom.
Can fit in no problems, but look CRAP

That's the best part about two single DIN units in one DD space...

Yeah, but perfectly working units cost more, and I want to tinker, thus me needing a busted one - I'll happily tinker with a new one if yours is cheap tho!
