Default Lincoln Navigator coming to Australia

We've had the RAM, the Chevy Silverado, the F150, the GMC Yukon supersize Australian roads, now here's some more Blue Oval, courtesy of a Sri Lankan based Aussie company!

https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...l-to-australia

At any rate, some more big Americana for our massive continent.

Why can I hear Kamahl crooning the old Dilmah ads; “Fragrant island…”

So this is actually the Lankan Navigator?

But will this one be recalled 43 times like the F-150?

Hahaha! But you just know it'll keep chewin'.

If I'm right, this is the same platform as the Ford Expedition, go look up the latest model, that looks much nicer in the front. Expedition is much cleaner in it's looks.

As we live in a world where we can't always have nice things, this is a pretty good step nonetheless.

Hmmm, seems it’ll be the long wheel base too, so 6 people and a proper boot. Wonder if it drives as good as a euro, and just how expensive it’ll be.

Have to agree with Sprintey, Expedition front looks heaps better.
I prefer the rear of the Expedition as well.
Don't like the interior of the Navigator, the wood looks cheap.

Rule of thumb for US Ford/Lincoln price here is whatever the US list price is, double that and add LCT.
Reserve L is close to US$100K so double that an add say, $40K LCT and it’s about $240K.

Edit, Mustang would be the exception to the above as it’s a factory RHD

Navigator is the oldest current design for Lincoln, Lincoln Aviator is the looker (imho) while new Nautilus is a guide of where interior|exterior design is going.

Man, for that kind of money, many potential buyers might go with Cadillac Escalade
it will be similar price to Navigator but looks a lot better fresher…scary how expensive the now are

On second thought, I looked at starting price of Explorer at US$38k and think that
either it or the Aviator would be a lot more reasonable deal but that’s me not an actual buyer.

I’d just buy an X7 or GLS and roll over before warranty ends…..
Or swap my Terries V6 diesel for a Coyote/Barra turbo.

Now that would be an interesting remanufacturing idea, rebuilding last Terries,
Raptor 3.0 TT would be an interesting combo

yep and Ford is trying to lift its sales in China.

Chinese market Explorer started the wide screen look although its not full width and I think both interior/exterior looks better than the North American version.

I actually forgot about Raptor engine, wonder how it would work as I would want to keep Terry AWD but like the idea of permanent 4wd Ranger setup…oh well, probably still cheaper to by an X7

Honestly, I can see both GM and Ford exiting China within five years, it’s getting really hard for them.

Happy to be proven completely wrong with this but I think the Chinese are done with western brands.

How much is a new G-Wagen again? This FoMoCo beast will cakewalk to near top of its class (expensive, showy SUVs).

Just a a matter of interest would you think a Ranger with say a 30cm shorter rear tub that is instead put towards a longer cabin would work as you don’t increase overall footprint and easier to park than F-150.

They’re also importing RHD Caddy Escalade as well, I think most buyers will jump at that vs Navigator.
I like the look of Aviator (Explorer) much better, slightly smaller but a lot less costly US$30K less to begin with
A good RHD one would probably be less than $130K……just spitballing here

That would be quite a swap.

Different AWD system to the SYII full time AWD - would a late low kms Turbo Ghia SYII be more cost effective?

Nah they’ll still buy premium brand euro in spades it’s status status for a while yet before a Chinese brand will ever have that cred to middle high income earners there.
Ford are late to the party into China.
They couldn’t predict their bad timing to hugely invest their under 10yrs ago.
Their distribution was minimal pre then for decades they missed that boat as well.
GM VW were decades ahead And had good distribution and entrenched.
In the meantime the Chinese increased their own brands having g so much western euro IP their own brands got ramped up and then massive Export what we’ve seen building up to date.
Ford are a minnow to them and consumers.
Mr Ford should have realised this long ago but had to take the leap in the hope of grabbing some fair % of local massive growth.
As I said looks like they have missed the boat.
Instead of putting the focus into China maybe they should have looked to other countries where where they have floundered and neglected for so long let alone feck all market share.
China, they wanted to jump on the easy growth gravy train.

Ford took Lincoln in a very different direction than GM did with Cadillac.

With Cadillac, GM pursued chassis dynamics that would rival the German competitors. To achieve that, they created bespoke platforms to compete with RWD BMW and Mercedes sedans. In this regard, they achieved their goals, most praising the excellence of the chassis and steering. But...................no one bought them. It seems like Cadillac buyers wanted a Cadillac and not an American 3 or 5-Series BMW. So, all that money spent on bespoke platforms when in actual fact buyers wanted the Escalade, which was based on a ladder frame Chevy/GMC truck platform.

Ford's approach with Lincoln couldn't have been more different. Ford knew that without starting from a clean slate, they were never going to achieve BMW-esq driving dynamics. And after seeing GM fail to gain traction from that approach, they realized that no matter how good they drove, people were not buying BMW's for their chassis prowess..........it was all about the badge and driveway cred.

So, Lincoln products are based on existing Ford platforms and models. The saving made here allowed them to put more money into the interior materials and finishes. They then decided to focus on comfort rather than "sporty" dynamics, mainly because this is what the target market actually wanted and not the perceived superiority of stiff suspension and high corning speeds. And even though they don't have the same sales potential, the range of Lincoln vehicles are considerably more profitable for Ford than what GM have done with Cadillac. The same approach has been highly successful for Toyota with Lexus, or even the GM with Buick.

Long story short, I wouldn't expect a Lincoln Navigator to handle like a Euro. But it would be safe to bet it would be much more comfortable over our terrible quality roads.
