Very sad news indeed. Couldn't beleive it when it came on the news he'd been killed by a Stingray.

His programmes were great for kids to learn about wildlife, my young daughter was very upset on hearing about his tragic death, we never took him as an ambassador for Australia, just as a guy who was passionate about his work with wildlife who's enthusiasm was almost infectious.

He will be missed worldwide I'm sure.

She is an idiot. I cant believe people are like that. Shame on her. Shes just trying to get a little publicity for herself, and she has got it, but in the worst possible way.

It's all been said previously but perhaps its grief and disbelief that I need to comment...

Steve Irwin, I think, was a fantastic bloke, a great ambassador for Australia. His energy was immeasurable and permeated everyone around him. From the news reports it appears anyone who met Steve were forever changed...we could only wish.

Through Wildlife Warriors, Steve as forged a lasting legacy and I hope that all who feel helpless, give generously to WW so Steve's quest can be continued.

My thoughts and prayers are with Terri, Bindi & Bob and their families, an absolute tragedy that they have had such a loving, energetic and caring father and husband whom had values so many in today's society so desperately lack.

Thank you Steve for all the good viewing, the catch-crys and the education.

We perhaps take comfort that you were taken by a creature you loved, not by human hands you so deservedly feared.

Good Bye and as mentioned above, you have now been recruited by the Creator to look after all creatures, great and small.

Unhappy

This is one of those moments when the world stops and wonders wtf is going on.
Here is a bloke that is larger than life and portrays a man that is purely devoted to each and every part in his life, his family, his animals and his endeavours for the Country and world.

Look at the facts
He has multiple projects for wildlife conservation here and abroad
He has a massive animal hospital and zoo
He also maintained a business group in the Australia zoo areas and surrounds
He is a devoted husband with a wife and 2 beautiful kids
He has brought unimaginable focus to Queensland worldwide
He has brought unimaginale focus to australia worldwide
He is also one of the only people in the world that I have seen and met that has not let the money get to him and one that has put as much money into these projects as he earns.

I could go on with pionts and I dont even know him personally.
Australia has definatley lost a good man and i hope we all wish his family and friends our condolences in this tragedy.
I share the same last name but am no relation that i am aware of but if i was i would be proud to state he was a brother uncle etc etc even so i am proud to say he was an australian and always stayed that way.

Her comments are misplaced and inappropriate on this occasion :

Even on other occasions, her motives are questionable and generally appear hateful and unwarranted.

she only did that for publicity... there isnt a human (i would think) that would say someone like the crocodile hunter who has contributed so much to the animal world had his death coming...

and why would the editor let that through..well publicity people will buy their newspaper...best thing to do is just ignore these people dont even say their name just refer to them as that person.. this is Steve irwin's place to be remembered not some stupid b**** of a journalist

RIP Steve Irwin

Apparently it's all recorded on tape while they were filming the documentary, I hope it will never be realised.

People who are bagging are probably somewhat uninterested in life themselves, as Steve lived life to the full, loved his family & was the same on and off the camera, an all round positive person, can't say the same thing about those members who chose to post negative remarks, can we?

No we cant,

I dont know why people can just let those of us who liked him post what we want, instead of being all high and mighty coming in here with their opinions.

Lets keep this on track, not like the other thread that has been closed :alien2:

exceedingly poor taste to have a go at someone, anyone, who has just passed away. shows utter lack of morals and high amounts of cowardness as the deceased has no chance right of reply.

I usually find it amusing as Spoonman is pretty controversial and gets people fired up about things.
Last night he overstepped the line, bagging Steve Irwin saying that he was an animal abuser and animal terrorist so to speak. On the day of the guys death, it was a real low blow.
Although Spoonman has had this opinion for Irwin for many many years and does acknowledge Steves contributions to animal preservation and all that. I just think it wasnt very appropriate last night.

So you see, its not just a few guys on a forum having thier say unfortunatly.

Steve is sorely missed worldwide, a real life Crocodile Dundee.
listened last night spoonman did a turn around. he started the show appologising for the night before. he recieved about 1000 emails yesterday. Steve Irwin was a very popular man.

I don't think we can close the door on his critics. Among his great achievements there were elements of his approach to his work that may have been reflected unfortunately in the fact that he placed himself in a position to be attacked by a stingray. Steve was controversial and no doubt there'll be discussion at a more appropriate time - but not the time Germaine Greer chose to say something. This is a time for positive reflection. The fact that he left a young family behind is I think the saddest thing.

I was reading that yesterday.

Over the last couple of days, I've realised how much scum there is on this earth.

Some of the comments I've read by people all around the world, make me sick.

I hate how some people think by making tasteless comments and jokes, it's alright and it's not a big deal.

I understand that alot of people didn't like him, but is it really appropriate to take advantage of his death and use it to mock him?

I don't wish death upon all these people, but it does prove that the assholes get a free ticket through life, while genuine people, with hearts of gold, like Steve, get their life taken.

Sorry guys, for being so angry. I'm just annoyed at the remarks that some people have made, over the last couple of days.

People have a right to say what they didn't like about him and even things he did...

However the thing that cannot be denied is the amount of work that Steve did for Australia in conservation while the fat cats call for more bulldozing. Steve doesn't do this for himself...he does it for the animals as they are his passion.

He is also a family man and I KNOW that if his family said, "Steve/Daddy, I want you to stop going on TV to spend more time with us", he would resign and do his family's request.
Steve IMO is one of the best family orientated men I have ever seen, considering how busy he is with media and business commitments.

I think people have a right to say they disliked him. However, to say he's stupid, an attention seeker is bullshit. His KEY focus was saving animals and the environment, NOT making money or having ppl kiss his ****.

If he was doing the same job and was unknown for it, he'd be just as happy and fulfilled.

Steve was genuine.

Germaine Greer is a stupid old ******* fart who I cast out of Australia. She complains about the greatest country on Earth, while doing nothing to fix anything.

It's easy to sit back and whinge. I say she moves to Iraq and sees just how fortunate she is to live in our great country where freedom, free-speech and equal opportunity allow to her to speak ****. In Iraq, she would be arrested for slander.
Just a ****weak attention seeker. Don't worry...she'll soon be forgotten...again.

Germaine Greer is a feminazi ***** who is so out of touch with society it is not funny. What a disgrace, doesn't have the guts to publish anything when he is alive, but is happy to take pot shots at him after he is gone. Thank god she lives in the UK, would have been burnt at the stake if she was here, and rightly so.

Dunno if any of you saw the interview with Bob Irwin (Steve's dad). He did really well under the circumstances and the press wasnt pushy about anything at all which he (Bob) commended. Bob Irwin also stated that a State funeral will be refused.

RIP Steve.

Why is it that small minded people get their kicks out of saying unkind / nasty things about people when they die.

I think it must be little d1ck syndrome, funny just how appropiate this is when I was thinking about Germaine Greer.

The search for 5 min of fame???
To make the spotlight by highlighting their stupidity????

The most they can really achieve is to hurt those who do care, the ones left behind, the loving families, sons and daughters, wives and husbands, friends who want the one thing they can't have.

All they have is memories, and these pittiless souls want to destroy that.

There is a time and a place for most things but I would suggest never for such negative attitudes at the passing of anyone. :
