This was mine until about 9 mths ago when we parted company. Was a sad day indeed. I had a lot of fun with this old girl, I'm glad to hear the new owner is looking after her well.

it is a very nice car - it is good to hear the new owner is looking after her. i suppose with the current cost of these cars, you would have to.
the thought of someone mistreating her though would be heartbreaking
thanx for sharing

did you build her from scratch, look long and hard for a decent example or just own her from new

Thanks, I bought her as a shell with running gear, a couple of years before prices went crazy. Spent a lot of time & $$ getting her right. The previous owner wrecked an XB interceptor and fitted the driveline to this vehicle, along with 302 heads. 98+ octane fuel was a must, but she goes quite well.

Thanks, I do have some shots somewhere but they are 'old fashioned' photographs which I'd have to scan. I'll see what I can do.
Cheers

This is probably the wrong place to show you but just pretend it has only two doors! ;)

I owned this before I sold the Lime Glaze XA, so they shared the garage, now the XP is a bit lonely.

Great pics! How many Landau's do you see at the drags ...... and doing good numbers too as always

Havn't weighed mine ....... dont fit on the bathroom scales but the original weight from factory is 1719kg. Is there a fatass hiding in the boot?

no fatass in boot just behind the wheel 1719 you say at least i now know how much heavier the rear quarter repairs make it rear quarters and roof are the only things that i havnt stripped and repaired roof was removed by others and apparently they lead wiped maybe that was the in thing way back then. guess its time to put it on a diet and go stripping

It is a 74 Build XB, had XA tail lights when I first bought it, I was silly enough to fit the XC front sheet metal as I got it rust free and in good condition, doing the right thing now and putting everything back to XB, have mint XB GT bonnet, grill, even XB GT exhaust panel all purchased at great expense over the last 18 months.

The car will get a full back to bare metal re spray....

PS the photo was not taken on a dyno, it was taken while I was driving and taking the photo, as a testament how steady the car is at that speed, the red light below the tacho is the shift light saying next gear thanks....Autometer RPM controller with LED light installed into the calibrated factory tacho....something to keep in mind for these old beasts about $200 from memory to buy and works like a beauty and fully adjustable.....( PS the photo was taken under controlled conditions....and lawfully : )

Here are few more random coupe photos of my car:

Fitted the Honey Comb panel over a couple of cold ones to steady bthe nerves while drilling into my Coupe, the tow bar is now gone so are the XC tail light lenses, replaced with XB ones. Also note the GT exhaust panel..

Some work in progress photos...

Thats about it for now>>>>>>>

Hey Col, that's a big improvement over the times you were running in the 90's. I remember someone asking you what it felt like to have a push bike pass you at half track : Cruel buggers

When are you running again, I'll come out to watch

I hope the pics work but here my XA, she has that heavy 70's feel & good reason as she is a bit of a time capsule in a way :

10/73 XA Fairmont coupe, special order McLeod Horn car through Metro Ford in Brisbane, a McLeod Horn car dealer.
Originally a 302 Cleveland Borg Warner rear end

I bought the car in October 2002 from Tony, the second owner whose family I knew through business, he bought the car in about 1974 or 1975 at around 18 years of age. He fitted the wheels around the mid 70s after he saw an ad for the NEW Hotwire wheels in a magazine he bought on a lunch break. The car had several engines in it & raced at Surface Paradise Raceway drags in Queensland Australia back in the 70's and 80's (John Force raced at this very track with Gary Denshem before he made his name the track is now a resort and golf course in the). Due to running 4.11 strip gears for many years the actual mileage is unknown but is a great deal less than what is showing.
The car was repainted the original Wild Plum in the late 80's and spent the next few years being pieced back together. When I bought the car the tyres still had the nipples on the tread and had been registered for about 9/10 months. Due to illness Tony had struggled to get the car back together and only drove it every now and then when health and money allowed.

In September 2004 I relocated to the USA with the car and have enjoyed every day I have owned it. I used to work with the previous Tony’s family from time to time and would drive the car to work so they could see it. I enjoyed listening to different stories about Tony and the car over lunch learning little facts about its history along the way. Needless to say it was very cool.

WildPlumXA she is gorgeous!
Another coupe in the STates.......
Only thing - that V8 badge underneath the fairmont badge on the rear should not be there

But glorious nonetheless

Thanks,

The v8 badge has been there for many years, I have seen a couple of coupes with them over the years so maybe it was something from the dealer or just an idea everyone had. Either way it's like the chrome cowl panel, part of the cars uniqueness & that whole 70s thing :

cheers
Lawrence

PS I know it's a Holden/Pontiac but thought it was funny to drive all the way out to Mt St Helens & the only other car parked there was a bloody Monaro
