I have recently updated from a 42" Viera plasma that's now about 7 yrs old to a 47" Viera LED/LCD and I can't fault it apart from the clunky operating system. You'd think they'd improve things in 7 years but the basic architecture is still unchanged. Having said that, the picture on the new one is good enough for me to not pick a deficiency and at about 1/3rd the power consumption of the old 42" and less than 1/4 the heat radiation I'm more than happy with LED/LCD over plasma. My old 42" is capable of raising the temp in any room it's in by about 2 degrees in less than an hour. It's now relegated to bedroom duties even though it's picture is still as good as the day it was bought.

I still have my Sony 68cm purchased in 2004 and am still happy with it. Don't see the fuss about the Plasma and LCD TVs.

My 3 yr old pana VT pooped itself a month or so ago. Started getting a horizontal 'tinted' band that would flicker and go away after a warmup. One day it just wouldn't turn back on. 7 flashes of the red power led. Apparently its very common but fixed by soldering on some new components onto one of the boards. I nearly chucked it out! Glad I didn't.

Buying a plasma and them complaining about heat/electricity is like buying a V8 then complaining about it's fuel consumption.
I still way prefer the picture of my 50" Viera over any LCD/LED I've seen to date.

The new ones don't use much more power or put out much heat. I've had my 65" on for most of the day and there's barely any noticeable heat coming from it.

TV (all 42Kg's) installed and running, the user guide is nearly 200 pages!

Picture quality is awesome, it is a smart TV with iPhone and android integration, media player, internet, voice recognition yada yada yada....

I have it connected through our Bose V25 system which means one remote runs the entire system including the Apple TV.
