:sm_drool: :sm_drool: :sm_drool: Thanks for the pics, got the V8 supercars coming shortly to the West, but this day out with all the history involved surely would be the pick in my book.

They are running Formula Classic as a support category. Formula Classic is basically pre-1985 historic Formula Atlantic, Formula 5000, Formula 2 and some sports cars. The class definitely has potential to be faster than the V8Supercars, given that a RALT RT4 (Formula Atlantic) driven by John Bowe held the lap record their for years, at 53.44s.

Only problem there is that these days they wont push them 11/10ths in fear of bending them. Far enough but man it would be great to see them attacking hard.

There were two up the front that kept a good pace.

was a top weekend. much better than watching the taxi racing could ever be!

mick's A9X that lindsay was driving (the white and red roadways/gown hindaugh/aunger wheels #20) is very much worse for wear with it's heavily bent nose and scorched rear, but it'll be back again next year. the "down to a bare shell, repair, and start again" plans were under way before the car was even loaded to go home again. there were plans to do a full rebuild soon anyway, but the incident has brought those plans forward a little now, and are a bit more involved than hoped!

True, but tyre, engine, set up has moved on through the years so they may not be driving them as hard but similar lap times are very possible.

Default Running 11/10ths???

Trust me, some of these guys are running at 11/10ths in their historic cars. I was there and running with them. You are driving as hard as you can.

if the sierra's were not forced to carry an extra 80kgs in that race, the ****ingshaw would not have got near them. even with the extra weight (the equivalent of an extra passenger for 6 hours), a sierra still finished with 15 seconds of it

i am sorry but i have no time for the ****inshaw - it had mega dollars spent on it to win one race and failed miserably at that - even the illegal ones were too slow. it only had success because the other cars were penalised for beating it

Sorry about that. He was up against the two Brabhams, son and grandson in a Bavarian taxi and a Formula Ford. No contest really. It shat all over them from a great height. John couldn’t get anywhere near the tyre temperature required, not that it mattered. He could have nailed them both by turn three if he really wanted to.

Cheers

That pretty much sums up much of Holdens race history doesn't it, get wins when there's little or no competition or had the competition nobbled ie. AU, A9X era.

JB was cruising on old tyres in practice doing 12's but believes it has 7's or 8's in it on new tyres. Even then it was pulling 170mph up the back straight. He has lapped Eastern Creek in it 3 seconds faster than V8SC's on the second lap out before traffic.....

Hahaha, yeah. A lot has changed since 1990, that I can tell ya.
The fella came to where I work and did an old GM motor tune up with the injector/racks.

He showed me pics and all, and all I can remember was a black (hopefully memory serves me correct on the colour) GT40 and that he said that Glen Seton practiced / raced it around Phillip Island and said it was nuts and wouldn't do that again. He apparently was scared of it.
Not many people had the guts to drive it.

Definitely a genuine car, all Grp C/A's racing are. At least it looks very repairable even if a lot of work.

The speed comparison was similar to the F1 events, M3 vs FFord vs GT40. Had a look at the GT40 in the pits and as you can see from the photos a very impressive weapon. Danny it was obvious from the grandstand that JB was playing with the other cars! Not sure why they didn't use more realistic handicaps to do a proper comparison!

Oh and something else I noticed, how freaking cool is the e30 BMW M3 Grp A.

Are they a 4 cylinder? Because it sounded mental. I like a good pinto but that just pooped all over them aswell. Great car.

Awesome, love the shots. The main reason for me to go and watch the V8 Supercars as I have lots almost all interest in them.

Agreed, I forgot all about PI until I saw it on the news.

Another tid bit, Jim Richards won the last race in his falcon sprint which is a 289, I walked past after the race and noticed on the board the wee Windsor pumps out 535HP. DAMN! I didn't realize how good they can be, I thought that was 351 territory. Great to see it going by the stangs.

While it’s a really good little 289 I don't think that it has had the money thrown at it that some of the 351’s are rumoured to have had spent on them.

A lot of people assume that it is a 302. I think that they also had to restrict its revs for parity reasons.

I can remember reading that if JR is going through a sequence of flowing corners he has the corner speed to keep the revs up and match the bigger engined cars. But if it is more of a slow right down then speed up again sequence the torque advantage of the bigger engined cars is unbeatable.

Thanks for the info - have known about the support programme and have seen what a RALT RT4 can do around Barbagallo - awesome, have also seen JB drive the same car (I believe) around the track, but the main problem I face in getting to the track to watch the main game is when the line of cars entering the track stretched out to 2.5 klms outside the track at 4.00am in the morning, is when I decided enough is enough and now watch the race comfortably on the big screen with a couple of mates, even though I live only 5 minutes away from the track - thats after a run of fifteen years of not missing a race round.
