thanks coupsta. a lot of the parts are NOS, which is quite surprising 23 years later. what hurts the most is the postage costs for items from from the US or UK which is where most of the NOS parts can be scourced. there's not a lot in Aus :

I have a redline from the early 80's, , with KKT lightning pedals, and Araya alloy wheels... its complete with the gold shimano crank.... dunno the brand of the bars, , and there is no seat...( painted with the original redline white and red fleck ) - these are the days before chrome !

Also have a Webco, , which was a weird to get frame, with bear traps and the same gold araya wheels !

MAXIM i know where there is a brand spankers set of Skyways for sale at a local bike shop. I recently had a REDLINE DUALLY dual slalom mountainy with Flights on it, unbreakable. I just bought a Specialised free ride mountainy. I used to race BMX and was getting good at it until i discovered girls and a drivers licence. 4th in SA was my best result and i never got to any nationals coz my old dear couldn't afford to send me. My first race bike was a Raleigh fitted with Skyways and v-bars, choice.

Damn , I remember hearing all about these BMX bikes for ages in mount Isa When I was a kid! We had the Malvern Star dragsters and stuff ! The first BMX I ever saw was the Chrome Mongoose with the Polished alloy wheels like Tuffs. Was My best mates Birthday present (He had the latest YZ80 dirtbikes when ever they came out too ) and he was surrounded by kids at school all day . There were kids standing all around it at the bikeracks everytime we were out of class for days .I had to earn my own bike . I worked and bought a used Madison frame and forks , Got some red tuffs with the twin spokes (cant remember the name of them ) One piece cranks cause I couldnt afford the Three peice !
Wow , Memories!

Remember the Malvern Star ad? I wanna be a star, a BMX star.... LOL. I tell the kids of today I can remember when BMX came out and they look at me as though I am from another planet. Til I get their bikes off them and show them some tricks.

How bout the old magazine 'Pancake'?
Might have to have a dig around and see if I got any old copies lying round.

That Proline looks wicked. I've still got my Redline MK I (thats right not MKII) at my parents place. Still in reasonable nick from memory, though theres a couple of hairline cracks in the frame from thrashing it too hard!

Man what a trip down memory lane. My 1st in 79 ( I was 12 ) was a standard chrom Mongoose, Then 6 months later I got the Team Mongoose in blue with matching gold alloy rims and seat post, blue aria seat, SS pro bars ( Forget the brand ) etc and I was sponsored by Gap Bmx her in Brisbane.

12 months on from that I went up to a GJS as it had more room between the gooseneck tube and seat tube ( Growing pains ) with the old ACS Z rims & a set of the graphite tuffs in black. Tried rock walking with the Z rims, Not a good idea if you're not good at it.

Remember in 1980 when all the americans came to Brisbane and raced at the old windsor track. Met the likes of Stu Thomsen, Greg Hill, The Koz, Kenny ?, Bobby Encina, John Crew and also met at the time actual owner of Mongoose Skip Hess who gave me a gold medallion with the mongoose logo as I was still at the time a sponsored mongoose rider.

I raced virtually every weekend Brisbane, North/South East Qld, Sydney etc. Best ranking for age group was 4th AUS 13yr. Then 1 weekend, I decided to take a weekend off and go and see a movie ( American Werewolf in London ) with school friends and never went back to racing.

I took more notice and interest in girls and found the movies could be interesting.

Hi all i have been reading these forums for some time now, i dont know how i missed this thread for all this time. As you may guess from my nickname i am a BMX enthusiest. Not your current crop of BMX but Vintage Old school BMX I collect Restore and enthuse LOL. There is a large following around the world for this hobby and many gatherings are held around the world. The gatherings are much like car shows for BMX and a lot of the old racers from Back in the day show up with their old steeds. It was mentioned in a earlier post about the Profesor well im happy to say he is a member of my website along with the likes of Damon Bevon, Mick Wiltshire, Arron Spencer, Jamie hayles and many more top riders from BITD, All these guys are great and it is a great little community to get involved with. So if you have a interest in BMX from BITD and would like to reminise with some of the BMX greats or would like to sell/buy and restore old bmx stuff feel free to come and join in.
Regards
Richie

I had one of these in 1980, it was the first one in Australia and the actual bike used to model the Super LA.

My Brother had a PK Ripper, Red. Also one of the first ones in Aust.

We both raced at the first BMX meeting in QLD at Windsor, 1974 or something crazy I believe. Anyone remember Trevor Pacey my bro, it went on to be very good.

Epic thread! Oh the memories!

I had a Mongoose with the layback seat post and stuff then a GT with toughs I got for it and finally a chrome Kuwahara with 20" wheels :P

I think my folks gave the kuwahara away when I was in my 20s to some mate of theirs. God knows what it'd be worth today :(

All my mates had GT's, Haro's and Redlines too. I don't remember much about brands but yeah - I'd spent cash on grips, seats, cranks, wheels + tyres and all sorts of stuff.

OMFrigginG!

So hilairous this thread, takes me back we my brother and I lived in Caulfield,Syndal and FTG (Melb).

Most weekends, would be riding in and around Elsternwick (golf course), Syndal was riding around Mt Waverly and FTG was riding up and down the Dandy Ranges Nat park (which you can't do anymore).
Lyrebird track used to be so sick coming down it, after spending an hour or so going up it. Brother had a bad stack, cut himself preety bad, but hey, it was worth every stack. Used to ride to Belgrave and back just for kicks, coming back to FTG was sic as you built up so much speed coming down from upwey (bike track).

I built my own mountain bike, I remember converting my bike from a 6 speed to 18 speed. Unheard of back then. Went through derailers like anything hahaha, till I had it set up right.

But BMX though the bush, fully sicko! Rememeber when pegs, tuff's and "dinking" were all the rage. Ahahahaha.

hrmz..

I am only in my mid 20's, I remember riding BMX's from about 1997 till about 2002....

Aaaand then I started trying to ride my bike again last year, stripped my DMR V12 pedal out of my Primo Powerbite alloy crank arm...

I pulled it apart with the full intention of fixing it...yeah...right.

I also have a Mosh race BMX of sorts, alloy frame, forks, and Profile Cranks
