are you sure? I brought it up with her a few months back. I had a major chest infection and she called me into work one day to help her with something, then proceeded to light a smoke and blow it in my face. nice huh. Anyways, when i returned to work 2 weeks later, i asked her to stop smoking, and i said, "I'm sure theres some rule about smoking in here".

She proceeded to tell me that because we work in a "club" that it is different to a normal office, and that smoking in pubs and clubs rules are different. But i think honestly its a battle im never going to win...

If your in the "back office" of a club or pub then she is talking shite. Its only in the public areas that have the smoking allowed rules..and not by staff.

If a person has died, and not been discovered, decomposition sets in. It's not pleasant to roll this person over, to make sure they've got no unexplained injuries on the other side. The movement always results in the expulsion of pungent gases, from all orifaces.

That is unpleasant to do, and endure!

I've also cracked terracotta roof tiles, too.

And also the repetitive nature of the job.
Just last week I sat down with the department manual and worked out that I need 84 hours a week to do the basic routine, as well as the few new jobs that have been given to me.
Then the boss cut the hours in my department to 47 a week. 38 of which are mine.
I haven't been on holidays in nearly 5 years now. There is no one trained to cover for me if I'm off sick. In fact they will call me at home and ask me to explain step by step how to do the most basic things.
Oh and then my boss went on holidays and made me do her job as well as my own for 3 weeks.

I'll state a couple of the jobs I hate:

- Filing.....pretty much my job description. Eek I hate it.
- Bins.....being the part-timer in the office, and the one who does the lightest work I get to do the bins....fun fun.
- Customer service.....generally not terrible, but when I am only in 2 days a week I generally don't know what has been going on. I also work in an industry where there are many foreign people, who I simply cannot understand!!!!!

When I was working as a Registered nurse there were plenty of fun jobs to do.

Checking for fecal occult blood, watching worms wriggle around in faeces was a great thing to see before lunch. Washing down dead bodies and preparing them for the morgue. Trying to get the smell of burnt flesh out of your nasal cavities and the back of your throat after assisting in surgery. Holding peoples heads together while their brains are coming out of their ears. Telling relatives that their loved ones had passed away.

Nursing babies that had been bashed or abused, nursing psych patients whose kids had been murdered, then having to sit and listen to the case histories of these people or others who had been abused all of their lives.

Trying to console parents whose babies had passed away just after they were born.

Having 7 high dependency patients to 1 nurse.

Meh that should do it for now.

Leah you have already broken the ice with her so its time to go outside either to Union or workcover no need to do it anonimously as she will guess anyway but be prepared if she gets shitty, and she will, make sure you write down dates and times she may say anything etc and her change in attitude towards your work.Firstly check the rules then ask around workmates and get support from them as well. Do it calmly and without agrivation explain clearly your concerns and be sure she knows you will take it further if you need to but try not to do it in a threatening manner. Good Luck. Its time.

Feathers, you need to take a holiday, Woolies as with Coles don't respect their workers be they casual or fultime. At Coles over the last 12 months or so there has been a concerted effort to reduce workers built up holidays no matter who or what their job is they don't respect you so why should you do anything for them any more.If you haven't been on holidays for that long its time for you too.

I know. And I will go on holidays as soon as they give me someone to train to do the work I do while I'm not there.

That's what nurses do, depending on where your working. I guess you can tell that I moved around a few areas, sorry if it was TMI for anyone but that is what we do and worse but I wont go there because not even I like thinking about it.

A first year nurse earns 27k a year and people wonder why nurses would rather work overseas or strike (I never did join the strikes). Had to have counselling once for an incident that happened in psych once though.

well i cant beat the nurses stories
but i work in childcare and well i dont think i need to detail all the yucky stuff that comes with my day
unfortunately like a nurse the pay doesnt suit the job. After 8 years working i get under 30k and thats as a fully qualified worker (2 years at uni), someone untrained gets alot less. its for the love i guess.

Alot of you have written cleaning toilets thats nothing compaired to what i do at work. I have to fix sewerage pumps and sumetimes i have to get in the pits and fix the pipework i also have to clean out all the cotton ear buds/tampons/condoms/jocks that get stuck in the impellers in the bottom of the pumps. Youd be suprised what youd find down there.

Recently at the retirement village at wannaroo we went out there as there was a fault in the system usually the old people with alzheimers who always flush there undies down the toilet. So we went out there and found a goanna sitting onto of one of the rising mains it was like animal rescue rspca and we saved him but the weird thing is there theres no way to get into this pit other than down a toilet, so some old person has flushed it down there.
