Cruze small car recalled due to potential fuel leak.

Holden has proved why few car makers laughed at Toyota’s recall dramas after the local car maker issued its own recall for the Cruze small car.

The company says it is asking more than 9000 owners of 2010 Cruze models fitted with 1.8-litre petrol engines to return their vehicles to dealers to fix a problem that could lead to a potential fuel leak.

“A condition has been identified where, in some instances, the fuel feed hose may not have been manufactured correctly and could result in a fuel leak,” said Holden. “We are aware of 71 cases of a reported fuel leak due to this condition ... but no accidents or injuries have been reported. 9098 vehicles are affected in Australia.”

Holden says it is contacting all customers who are affected by the recall to ask them to contact their Holden dealer to book a free repair.

The recall is Holden’s third of the year, following defects that needed to be addressed for its Captiva soft-roader and Combo van.

Recalls continue to be commonplace in the automotive industry. The Cruze recall is also insignificant when compared with the negative publicity Toyota has suffered so far this year after the Japanese company recalled more than 8.5 million cars including the Prius hybrid.

In other recall news, Honda in the US has requested 412,000 cars come back to dealerships to address a brake-feel problem. Honda Australia says that no Australian cars are affected by the recall.

I still haven't seen this reported anywhere, other than the original article sourced in this thread. Risking sounding like a paranoid Ford man, I am curious as to why? It took a site like CarAdvice a couple of weeks to release the story on the Captiva's steering woes and in the last couple of days their resident Holden man Matt Brogan has 'broken' news on a possible Cruze coupe (based on a couple of throw away lines by Reuss).

Paranoid - maybe. Curious - definitely.

According to a Holden Dealership mechanic I know ( with the bonnet up and pointing at the line in question) the fuel line is a problem and leaking Batteries from weak ultrasonic welding of the lid to the case is is also being rectified.

Looking at the way the line is mounted if it were to come loose, I would imagine it would flick fuel over to the exhaust manifold

2010 Holden JG Cruze recall

Holden is recalling more than 9000 petrol-powered 2010 JG Cruze models after identifying a problem with the fuel feed hose that may cause a fuel leak.

A total of 9098 vehicles with the 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine have been targeted by the recall in Australia.

The official recall notice reads:

“In some instances, the fuel feed hose may not have been manufactured correctly at the swagged end of the fuel hose to the fuel rail quick connector in the engine bay.”

Holden announced that no accidents or injuries have been reported relating to the recall but admitted that it is aware of 71 possible fuel leak cases.

Holden says owners should contact their local dealer, and if the vehicle is affected they will replace the quick release connector from the fuel feed hose free of charge.
