I have never driven the phlegm 7 nor do I ever intend to. Not only is it possible to get happy snapped but you also pay $4 or so for the privilege.
The Logan Mwy is even worse, Black Anna The Pirate Queen, is now raising prices again charging you the consumer more when their faulty equipment doesn't work. Roads are the governments job as a public service it is one of the things we put them in to do to maintain them not charge the heck out public for it. I remember back in the days gone by when governments actually built roads and factored it into their budgets and did it for the people. I wonder if main roads will be the next public service sold off to private enterprise. Good friend of mine copped one of the withdrawn tickets driving through there. He had no idea where he was only realised when it was too late to get off very confusing signage for it as well. Last edited by SirHenry; 25-06-2011 at 03:22 PM. |

its all well and good policing the reduced limits, and it would be common sense to have the camera on a delay after the change over period, but forgive me if i have trust issues with the govt. |

How would you feel, if you followed your own advice above, and still lost your licence? Think about it for a minute - you know you've done everything right, and now your $900 in the hole, minus 8 points; and are unable to drive anywhere for half a year. And made to feel like a criminal. Legal advice pretty much said the person fined has to prove the camera was incorrect, backed up by specific technical detail. It's all very well coming up with self-righteous commentary about what to do and what not to do. But I am 100% sure the cameras in that tunnel were not working correctly during May. They probably still aren't, but I'm not willing to test them ever again. |

the state govt has earned more cash from the clem7 cameras than the owners of the tunnel have made from tolls.
its not the tunnel owners that get the cash from the fines its the govt. clem7 wouldnt be bankrupt if it did lol |

Im a falsely-economic cheap ***. I dont use toll roads. Granard Rd gets me to the Southside & the ICB gets me to the Northside.

Im going to go against the grain here, I use the Clem 7 all the time and i think it's great. Whilst I haven't been through there yet with variable speed activated I make sure i pay plenty of attention to the speed indicating LED signs just because I know there are camera's in there.
I have also never had my radio or phone for that matter cut out on me in the tunnel.

Talked to a guy that helped build the tunnel and he says the cameras are 600 to 800 meters in on both ends,if that helps anyone.

I love the tunnels and the GBB - both my wife and I use them whenever they run the way we're going.
Today for example, from when I got to the northbound entry to the Clem 7 to when I pulled into my driveway in Kedron was 14 minutes. It's smooth, easy, peaceful and cheaper than driving above ground. I love the Clem 7 - it's like they built it just for me |

When the limit is reduced, does the speed camera have a few minute time delay before it fines people at the higher limit?
They can't fine you the instantly if you have not even seen the sign change. |

Ive used the tunnel 4 times
three in a truck and once in the car it might be $4 for a car but try $9 for a truck and yes the radio works in the tunnel and just to play around I listened to 97.3 FM I dont listen to kids radio MMM and the like and also switched to 693 AM and used the mobile phone and every thing worked there was a voice came over on FM to warn me of a breakdown and to slow down so a quick move to the right lane and to AM radio and the voice was there also so really there is no excuse has any one noticed how hot and humid it is in the tunnel one last thing from the south side via the freeway to Kingsford Smith drive $4 or $9 and no trafic lights thirteen trafic lights if you take the scenic route through the city using the ICB still no trafic lights and zero Dollars so whats the point and the return trip 3 trafic lights back to the SE freeway so you do have a choice thanks John |

Having just moved back to Brisbane after living in Gladstone for the past 25 years, my view is that you have to keep vigilant beacuse there's usually lots going on in roadwork areas, the reason speed cameras are in road work areas is because people regularly refuse to slow down, they put workers lives at risk. However highway roadworks is different, you get to drive what seems 2 kms at 60 kph before stop/go because of some government safety regulation says so...... |

The Eastlink tunnels here in Melb do this too.
I was driving home from work one night at around 3.00am, not another vehicle on the road for ages, got to the tunnel and it had a 40km/h limit with the warning signs flashing for roadworks ahead. Slowed to 40 and as I travelled through I noticed that there was no roadworks, all 3 lanes were open and clear, not another vehicle in sight, etc etc. Anyway, got pinged as I started to climb up the hill out of the tunnel for 48km/h in what would otherwise have been an 80km/h zone. My guess is there was roadworks earlier in the night but they had finished, packed up and gone home, but the numpty in the control room at Eastlink forgot to reset the limit back to the default 80km/h!!!! Do you think Civic Compliance would have a bar of it........no way.

It's the same case on the F3 Freeway in NSW during the night that drops the speed limit from 110km/h to 40km/h or 20km/h...
Thankfully though the cops don't mind you slowing down or speeding up just as you get to the start/finish of the roadworks..

before gov decides to give the go ahead to these private road owners they want to know how much money in revenue they will be forecast to make they fudge the figures to get the contact build the road that no one uses, so if the end user doesn't want to go on the road then it would make sense to trick customers that do, into paying fines so they don't look like the owner of the road scammed the government in the hope to get another contract to build another road, whats rego for again?

Low and behold; Clem7 customer numbers are dropping.
June 2011 has the lowest vehicle usage numbers of all time - 28,244; down from 31,748 in February, and 33,068 in September 2010. I wonder if they realise a lot of their previous customers may now not be able to drive anywhere at all, let alone back through their tunnel; all thanks to their camera debacle. |

If it is a case of the sign said 80 km/h as you went past it, then the speed limit to you is 80 until you have been advised differently by another sign, end of story. If you go past the sign and then it changes to 40, that does not apply to you until you have been advised by the next sign.
This idea of radios being fair notification is fundamentally flawed on a number of points. One is that there is no ADR stipulating that a radio must be fitted to a car and it is not an element of a road worthy inspection that it works. Second, virtually no motor bikes have radios. Third, some vehicles although fitted with radios, the radio is often switched off for valid reason. An example of this last point is my ambulance, I rarely have the radio switched on as there are too many other things happening as a part of the conduct of my duties to permit the distraction. Finally, hearing impaired people are able to hold a full drivers license but are unlikely to listen to the radio. That is why there are supposed to be adequate signage, it seems the signage may not be adequate. By the way, to the person that claimed government vehicles get fines quashed, no we don't, we get them like every one else. Even speed camera shots with red and blue lights flashing in it get sent to our superiors for investigation.

An update from today's Courier Mail:
Clem 7 user numbers have dropped by 2,000 cars per day, after news of the ridiculous fixed speed camera set-up was reported in the media. Hopefully some forum members here were/are able to save themselves from being victims too. Remember you can't get fined for speeding in gridlock traffic |

They do that in the roadworks down here. They continue the 40 zone well after the roadworks end. And if you speed in tge slightest you get pinged.

It isn't just down there...they've got a habit of doing that at roadworks out here on the Capricorn Highway. you'll go past a sign saying "80-roadworks", and then nothing...you'll be in a line of cars cautiously creeping along waiting for the "end of roadworks" sign, but there isn't one. Then you'll see the back of another sign on the other side of the road, and glance at it in the mirror, seeing the sign for "80, roadworks" facing the other way. But there's no "end of roadworks" sign.
I just speed back up to 100 or 110 depending on the location and limit. However, I still worry for a while what will happen if a cop comes the other way and I've got it wrong... It's even worse when they did the same thing with a couple of ones that went "80" then "60", and there was no end of roadworks sign...no one would want to get pinged for 40 or 50 over the limit... I think they'll find that the people who don't want to use the tunnel aren't irresponsible drivers who "want to speed through the tunnel", but rather people who don't want to risk losing thier licence if they go past a sign that has suddenly changed the speed limit...something that just shouldn't be allowed anywhere. Either have a set limit or put out physical signs on the road to say roadworks ahead. None of this digital crap where it can flick to a different speed just as you are about to pass it. In the trains out here, sometimes a signal will "drop out" on you, going back to red from green for some reason, usually a momentary fault. No big deal, you come to a stop and get a form to proceed past the faulty signal. I've hd a couple of instances however when control has had to tell me the signal went red before I passed it and to stop the train and get a form. They work by the steel wheels contacting a track circuit, which when triggered is behind where you sit and drive past, out of sight. We watch the signals until they go out of sight beside us, then look forward again. if it flicks to red beside you, you won't notice it, but control will as they get an alarm. Now in the tunnel, what happens if you check the speed sign, and just before you pass it, it flicks to a different, lower, speed? Is there a delay? Because technically you are now speeding along that section. I know that would put me off driving through it...besides the fact I don't believe we should be paying tolls on any road, given the amount of rego and fuel taxes we pay... The Police are now tearing up a lot of the speeding tickets issued, as mentioned in today's Courier Mail
Looks like an admittance to wrongly accusing motorists of speeding in the first place. I wonder how the self-righteous now feel with this revelation? |
