Such a non issue being made into something because its Russian. You think Obama goes anywhere without some military might in tow? Vladdy was just named the most powerful man in the world again and for all the "ha ha Russia is nothing because apparently its 1920s now their definitely one of the worlds superpowers.

Was hilarious when Abbot made that minor "threat" to shirt front him though, Putins a 6th degree black belt in Judo, 6th degree karateka and an accomplished Sambo practitioner, Abbot would have been thrown and had something snapped in seconds.

He's a world leader of a super power, just like Obama he has to bring his toys as well. I for one like how Abbot had a little balls about him and said what he did, don't forget we had Australians on that plane. It's not so much how powerful Russia is, it's more Putin is a loose cannon. Like if they stir him too much he just might push the button, and no body wins once nukes and radiation hits.

Just Putin strong arming, trying to make Abbott sweat a bit. Ol' Mother Russia having a bit of fun...

If Russia were serious about sending a country into nothing ness, they could do that from the comfort of the Kremlin...

your house was built in Australia with mainly Australian made products mate - just cause you can't find the little map of australia in a circle on things (which by the way is mostly used these days to detract from the fact that the product in question is actually owned by some big american conglomerate) does not mean that nothing in your house is Australian made.

I agree with the comment comparing them to north Korea - yeah they probably do have better technologies than we think they do but not too many people are willing to fight for nothing - the majority of russians live in poverty and its such a massive country that it has internal factions that would certainly hinder the homeland whilst most of its military were deployed.

Meanwhile in Ukraine, i love how Russia are still denying they are there. One thing they gets points for is sticking to there guns, they are intent on denying it. The rest of world wont do squat to help Ukraine, they are all too scared of Putin, and rightly so. There are 100% confirmed cases of over 1000 Spetsnaz special forces soldiers in Donetsk, and yet nothing is reported on it. Australian media is a joke, read some proper news like AlJazeera or BBC world.

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/europe...633235624.html

This garbage in the news about this fleet coming is a joke, he always does it when he travels abroad, so do the other big powers. He even lets it dock sometimes and allows tours on the ships.

As long as Putin can continue to use Siberia as one giant Slurpee, resource flavoured, keeps his 50 billion+ hoard of assets everything should be fine. I`d be more interested to know how far behind both Russia and China are in the Asteroid mining race.

4 ships. One a support tanker/oiler, one a tug boat and two war ships.

Kind of takes the shine of a show of power when no-one south of the equator would resupply your ships and you have that little confidence in your fleet, that you bring a tug boat along.

I'd like to see a Putin/Abbott showdown. Putin may be a black belt, but Abbott's a boxer and if he chucks on his budgie smugglers, he'll have Putin distracted enough to drop him. ;)

I am so embarrassed by the crass way that our Prime Minister has conducted himself.

It reflects badly on a country that has to date been held in high regard to international credibility compared to our population.

Tragedy really.

Seems a few would like to see some Russian Military hardware!

Been to Vladivostok to hop on the Trans Siberian. Really rough place actually; once was enough! Got there by ferry from Korea...

Yeah...righto.
I think you would be quite surprised at how good their MIG fighters are compared to the best hardware from America. They would seriously crap on our 20 year old FA 18's.

In Russialand it appears they also deploy them with their battlegroup, like this one - they deployed with a tug. They obviously don't have a lot of confidence in the reliability of their ships.
