good to see someone supporting what i said.
my EF used to rev out happily, my parents AU hates it. exhaust mods would help top end on AU's greatly.

My dad's current AU2 strait gas is about on par with an auto MPI EA. No Sh!t! It's soo gutless, his BA E-Gas was pretty hopeless too. He misses his old AU1 duel Fuel, my dad like the grille, plus it went hard.
Autos suck, when will you people realise this and start buying manuals. Manual falcons from EA >> are just becoming soo damn rare (not including XR models). It sucks! I've only ever seen a maybe 5 manual AU Fortes/Futuras. |

6 speed would go better. ;)
Pull all the performance gear off and see how it goes Dan. :P My old EA would Probably give a stock AU auto a good run for it's money. |

In keeping with the topic however I agree with EFFalcon in that my dad's EF felt great up high but not as toey off the line, while his AUFutura would just light em up off the line but run out at about 4000 rpm. When is 157kw different to 157 kw I wonder, stock dyno curves would be nice

AMusingly enough, the powerchip website has dyno graphs of stock engines.
it suggests opposite to what we have, with the AU having 160kw and the EF having 157kw. EF has a tiny bit more mid range, AU has more up top.

The AU's i have driven feel really torquey down low yet are anemic above 4000rpm compared to my EL (not stock but you get the idea).

i guess the extra mid range of the AU helps just enough to give it the advantage, the exhaust mods bulk out the mid range and increase teh top end considerably.

The AU falcon has different pistons...I think they are called hyperpeutic? The Au is supposed to have a bit higher compression too.
I had also read an article a long time ago that the AU transmissions were used original in older model mazzeratis. I had an eb before and it felt alot quicker off the mark than my AU...hence the begiining of mod addiction. The eb at midrange felt like it died down a bit.The Au on the other hand seems to pull harder at these speeds. The eb felt much lighter than my AU by heaps, but I am not sure if it was. Also the size of the valves on the au seem to be possibly bigger than prior cars inlets are 47 mm and exhaust are 41 mm.Maybe someone knows some specs on the older cars to compare.

The pistons in the AU im not sure if they are hyperutectic (a method of construction), but they have a diffrent pin position and longer rod, thus making less side wall thrust which aids in mid range torque. The AU also had an extra 3 points in compression iirc.
The AU head runs a 41mm exhaust valve over the Eseries head. The cam profile was also changed with the LSA out to a 119deg. A similar/fair comparison would be EF2/EL XR6/F'Ghia Auto Vs AU Fairmont Auto

Being Hyperutectic wont increase power in itself, just a better material than cast.

wouldnt supprise me Dan. the cost between manufacturing cast vs Hypers, isnt huge, as it is not a forging process.

My car is an AU1 auto Forte with 4499 paces, high flow cat, 2.5" exaust and simple air intake mods(filter and ef box) I ran a best of 15.62 with a 2.4 60foot. I reckon I can crack into 15.5 with the same setup. Its a stock diff as well.

Hi all.
Ive got a 96 EF 6cyl Gli 5sp Manual that now has a fair few mods. But when I only had a cold air intake I was doing 7.6sec 0-100 and there was an EL XR8 Auto that could not get under 8 sec. |

the Brochure scans state the AU II Forte's are Manual standard, with the Auto optional.
just like all base model falcons...

never tested it.. my cars auto so it wouldn't be that good. the manual GLi's are pretty quick, the 5 speed livens these cars up substantially.
