What is the Falcon "signature"?

Did the AU have it? Did EA have it? Did...

4-door, RWD, 3-box design = Falcon

Did the XB have it? You know, the car that is so Aussie it looks almost exactly like an early 70s mustang?

Or the XD that looks like a Granada.

There is no signature Falcon look. Our first Falcons were a global look anyway.

Have to agree. Every new model Falcon (not interim models XE, EL, ED etc) starts again with a blank canvas and reinvents the Falcon look.

If anything the FGX is more Falcon and especially Ford than the AU, BA, etc because it still has the bulk and side profile From the AU through to FG.

I think some of us Aussies forget that Ford is and will always be an American company. Our Aussie team have done well over the years to interpret those international designs specific to our market.

This is what I find silly...
  • The car is 80% FG from the side
  • Headlights have the same basic BFIII/FG shape...
  • The grille is a big throwback to the XW "power mouth"
  • The rear gives the Falcon an uppermarket look that was reserved for the LWB derivatives, the chrome strip in the boot is very NU Fairlane...
  • The Bonnet has a big bulgy profile that would look proud on a XA-C...

  • Waist swage line used on the EA-EL

Not that the detract from the E-series, but it just shows that the corporate look as always crept into the Falcon range...

Even the XA was a rejected proposal for the Maverick...even then, the TC Cortina looked like a mini XA

Pre-production. They were a bit of a mish mash of parts.

And if those cars had a Hofmeister kink in the C pillar like every Falcon from EA onwards (incidentally, I consider that to be a 'Falcon' look, among other things) then the resemblance will become more obvious.

I think that there is a definite 'Falcon look' in addition to Ford's global styling cues at the time, blended seamlessly. For me, the 'Falcon look' is the C pillar kink and glasshouse with a low waist line extending below the base of a steeply raked windscreen. I think the FGX does look like a Falcon. After all, the doors haven't been changed at all.

Agree but with the chrome strip painted out it doesn't look so Mondeo.
I may have judged the front profile to harsh by thinking it looked to much like a Lancer.
I'm used to panda eyes making the lights on my F6 blend. Had a good lool at a XR6 today & not a huge difference to the new model.
It just may look better in the flesh...with NO chrome rear strip

Me too.

Plus:

XR8 SC Ute please.

Same logic. Creative use of parts bin = niche cars that will sell.

I agree with you agreeing with me......but..in the case of the ute there is something bigger going on there because they wouldnt have left it at 315 for all this time if they didnt need to.

What I dont get is how much less torque is the XR6T or the F6310 ute making that the 335 5.0 is and how does that +Nm's effect the car?

And does that mean that anyone modding a ute above 315 is actually doing something potentially dangerous? Id say no because we have plenty of evidence that utes can be pushed pretty hard.

My gut feeling is it comes down to some internal constraint put on FoA.

Surely a BA/BF Typhoon ute is proof the live rear axle can handle the power?

Perhaps it has more to do with minimum refinement levels more than durability? So much power through that antiquated rear end would make quite the monster that only an enthusiast would want/should be driving on the street. Just a thought.

The reason for the ute not getting the full 335 power was explained in the Boss 5.0 forum area, directly from the powertrain engineer responsible for that engine. Flexing of the axle and the way the 5.0 SC produces its torque. They had a solution for it but time and money run out.

Personally I would have been more than happy with the 315 in the ute. It would still be a XR8 Ute which I am guessing is what the Falcon ute guys are wanting. I know it's been said that V8 utes havn't been selling but this last Falcon offering a XR8 may have seen better sales. It's still offering the Ford faithful what some are wanting too.
I know I'm wasting my time but I would give my left nut for one. Hell I'm not using it much lately so maybe I can head into Ford HQ and stick it on their counter. Take my leftie and make me a ute dammit.
