The above info is for those who are 'in the know' about cars, and GT's in general. I had the same question asked of me just this morning....

There is an XB GT for sale in current Unique Cars (issue 308)...
Page 94 - Matching numbers, rebuilt mechanically, apollo blue - $49000
Also:
Page 211 - Matching numbers, good condition, steel blue - $25000

Big difference for essentially the same car (both cars not rare Big Port of course)...

Now why would that be?? One is DOUBLE the price of the other...
And we're not talking XA GT vs XA GT RP0 83 here... we're talking very similar spec cars...

Exactly what 4Vman has said applies to this example...

I know which car that I'd rather buy...
Spot on.

All you need is a couple of tired low spec XA's or XB's to come onto the market at reasonable "for its condition" prices and suddenly everyone's claiming a massive drop or bubble burst...

25k for a GT is good buying if it is in good condition and the 49k is up there getting towards the higher end and would need to be in very good condition to acheive the asking price. Also one bloke might be in fantasy land and the other is being realistic because of the condition. If one is manual and the other auto there is always the difference as well ...... some people who say good condition might be comparing it to the rust bucket they saw. Lots of reasons for the difference.

In a retracting market the lower end cars will drag the top end down, just as in a booming market the top end drags the bottom end up. Simple.

Hence the reason that the replica XY GT's are coming down in price... you can pick up a car (that does need some work, lets say 6-7/10) for about $25,000 - $30,000...
But there are some that are asking $60k plus (based on factory V8 GS car) and various 'desireable' options...

Give it 12months and it will certainly be a buyers market...

Real shame some nice GS and standard cars have been turned into mock ups, but on the plus side the boom has helped save alot of cars. I came away from last years Hanging Rock car show thinking the world wont run out of XW or XY Falcons any time soon.
