Good stuff mate. Whats the company called. Some pretty inmportant work. Congrats. I'm in the electrical deisgn side of things but would also love to do an elec trade. Also have a house loan to pay though which makes it very hard as i couldn't really live for under $22 an hour also. Good luck keeping up with the work load. LOL.

The company i was meant to work for decided they needed to pull all their guys down to canberra for 3-6months, therefore i didnt even get a start. They have said once the job in canberra is done i'll get a go but im not holding my breath.

atec77 yes i do get around If you could provide those details that'd be super, im starting to get desperate (being officially unemployed is the worst feeling i have ever felt and its only been 4 days)

Of course it is, all the people with jobs on the east coast are commuting everyday, only takes 20min by starship.....

Being unemployed in the current economy is not good and I wonder if many businesses are holding off employing waiting to see what happens on the 24th.

If the whole AWA situation is scrapped and we go back to the way it was then I suspect being unemployed will not be a lonely lifestyle.....

great i am looking at starting a electrical apprenticeship and am 32 and was thinking they would be the go, ive already got a trade as a fitter but am sick of all the shite(dirty hot heavy) that goes with it, well its either a sparky or engineer.

As you have realised centralised wage fixing is inflationary , if there is a change expect 1 in 10 or so to be out of work quickly...

Go to a crowd called TORGAS. (in Brisbane)
We get all of our apprentices through them and we love mature aged appentices.
We have a 1st yr sparky 36yrs old and a 4th year in his 30's.
Also have mature aged, along with young App. diesel fitters too.
We found stability in the mature aged apprentices and the "young d1ckheadness" is out of their system.

But hook in NOW!!!! and apply for work for commencement in 2008. You got to beat all the school leavers and pre- vocational kids from 2007.

When it comes to the workchoices regs im in favour of them. i was an assistant manager of a medium sized buisiness and saw first hand the damage that can be done by having bad employees who knew the system and could not be sacked. this is not only bad for the business but also bad for other employees and importantly staff morale. i now run my own business and guarantee that if rudd gets in i will not be hiring any new staff as it will all be too difficult under the labor plan. if liberal stays i may hire up to 2 new staff, i know it sounds one eyed but why shoot the hand that feeds me (and my staff).

It is human nature that no matter what the regulations are there is a minority of employees and employers who will do the wrong thing to their advantage, if you get with the majority who do the right thing it is clearly evident which way is the way to go.

After all if the boss cant run his buisiness soundly everyone will be out of a job.

If Krudd wins mate, workchoices won't be scrapped until 2012. That's one of the smoke and mirror tactics of Krudd and Co. Seems the earwax eating botox boy is counting his chickens. He's been feeding them long enough.
