You all laugh, but if done properly, and in the right conditions, a panel or sections of a car (such as a bumper, spoiler, or mirror) can be painted by spray can and you can achieve very good results.
Pressure pack spraying can give great results when doing a panel on it's own, or small sections. It's takes a hell of a lot longer, and most definately a lot more effort than with a compressor, but it can be done. Specially if the paint is mixed by an auto paint store. Not just your ordinary pressure pack from Supercheap Auto. You must prepare the area well, and spray in the right environment (air temp). I've seen work done by spray can, and I wouldn't have known if the owner hadn't told me it was done that way. I've repaired and painted a heap of stuff on my cars by spray can and they last and look good. When you factor the cost of hiring a compressor, accessories, and anything else that may be of inconvinience to the individual, a spray can is not the worst way to paint. Specially on small jobs. I will definately say thought that in most cases, people don't know what they are doing. Like the owner before me that tried to fix the rear quarters on the Ghia. : ... and they look like they may have been done by compressor & gun! : |
