What's a good beer?

Its like no other beer I have tasted (and thats a long list). For even more enjoyment pour it into a glass. Try for one that is big enough for the whole beer. Build the head in the bottom of the glass as you pour and aim to have it about 2-3cm (or more) on the top of the beer. A very clean and completely dry glass will keep the head for longer too (applies to all beers).

I am looking forward to it. Another things about glasses that it worth mentioning is NEVER wash them in detergent. Any beer glass washed in detergent will never hold a decent head on a beer again. It is amazing how many beer drinkers dont know this.

XXXX gold and Tooheys new over here are me fav, but in NZ Speights Distinction has to be the best beer followed Speights and Mac,s beers are damn good too

Lol if it really were a "working man's beer" then it would have a price advantage. It does not.

In terms of a beer recommendation i cant not recommend coopers pale. But if its something sweet the Mrs is looking for, ive always found heineken to be a very very sweet drink. Might be a choice if the heavier beez knees isnt her cup'o'tea.

Hoegaaden's wheat beer as recommended earlier is brilliant and also quite sweet, has a real fruity taste to it - i imagine many wouldnt really like... but those who do absolutely rave about it (myself included). If there's a belgian beer cafe in your capital city (i know adelaide and sydney do ,melb prob do and by the sounds of it there's one in brissy), head on down and try the BIG one. Dont forget your wallet tho...

Thaks for the tip re: detergent outbackjack. Lol... very rare occasion that im civilised enough to drink from a glass but ill keep it in mind.

Coopers Vintage is the king, one of the best beers ive ever had, thats the one they produce in small batches, Heritage was awesome as well, but they have stopped producing it and it was never really a small batch thing, similar alcohol content to sparkling, but cleaner and more expensive, but damn it went down well, replaced it with their excuse for a lager, which isnt bad, but not my style.

Certainly like my ales more than lagers.

Guinness off tap is one of the best as well, the belgian beer cafe here is good for a few brews most people wont have heard of. And Little Creatures gear is starting to become more easily accessible in pubs and clubs, and not that expensive really. But it has to be drunk from a glass to get the full flavour from it. That hoegardeen stuff is great, besides making me laugh each time i read the name it goes down pretty well as well.

Coopers are not the pinnacles of quality in the world of brewing, but they are easily the best mass-marketed beer range in Australia. However, Grand Ridge and James Squire make excellent beer too.

I prefer Abbotsford Invalid Stout over Coopers Stout. Coopers is good (better than the Aussie Brewed Guinness stout (I can't find an imported) but Abbotsford has a much stronger coffee/chocolate taste to me, which I really enjoy.

Coopers stout is not hardcore. For a bit more, Leffe has the capacity to tear your balls off, along with Chimay (VERY highly regarded among enthusiasts).

Little Creatures is also very much liked. I recommend them. Their pale ale is nice.

One of the nicest beers I have ever had is La Trappe Blond. It had a really fruity taste and was clean. It is very hard to find. I have been to 2 Dan Murphys stores and they do not have it. Dumps like Liquorland, BWS or Safeway/Woolworths Liquor will not have it. The only place near me which I know has it is Vintage Cellars at Pinewood Shopping Centre. It's not a bad price and tastes bloody nice. It is not as popular as Hoegaarden though, but I loved it.

This is how much my friends and I like it, apart from the guys who drink the white and black cans, we took up 40 slabs of Draught for week away. We ran out of window space for the rest of the cans =/

Recently I had the pleasure of imbibing many glasses of JUDAS for the first time. It's a Belgian beer and it was bloody awesome. Real heavy taste, not too yeasty but very strong on flavour and a very creamy head.

Probably the best beer(s) I've ever had. Nominated driver had the pleasure of driving me home that night............

For a creamy beer, Kilkenny is ok. Different flavour, but nice.
Tetley English Ale is popular with many drinkers too, but I found it far too watered down (refers to flavour -not consistency) and weak. Comes in a 440ml can.
Another 440ml can drink is Boddingtons. Similar style. Slightly thicker beer by memory, but I might be wrong...been a little while. But Boddingtons was pretty good and a reasonable price.

If you have a Dan Murphy's or specialist beer joint near you (supermarket chains are no good) I recommend you take a dump on your CUB and Tooheys and try some international beers.

If you want a plain lager, German beers are pretty good. Lowenbrau is a fine example. Compared to an Australian beer, under German laws (or something like that), Lowenbrau doesn't contain chemicals and all that junk so you have a nice, pleasant tasting and clean beer. It's also at a very good price...about the same price as VB and the other Aussie wee, but the craftsmanship of this one is superior.

For a good, flavoursome, australian beer I can't go past any of the squires range. Hop theif ale being my personal favourite.... but i'm happy to say there's a case of coopers sparkling in my fridge right now.

Cascade and matilda bay brewing co have their moments... cascade's 2004 summer blond being absolutely the best australian beer I've ever had bar none.... just too damn expensive and each year seems to have too much variance in quality. Have also found the occasional decent drop from micro brewerys around, coldstream brewing co made a great dark ale (dogbolter style) about 6 months ago that saw the rounds in a few of the local IGA's... haven't seen it since though.

Nothing beats a Coopers Sparkling Ale, or if you want to keep warm, a Coopers Stout. For the alcohol content concious, Mild Ale- 3.5%, Pale- 4.5%, Sparkling- 5.8%, and Stout 6.3% (used to be 6.8%, but was lowered due to falling into a higher excise bracket).

My favourite beer of all time is Wexford's Irish Ale. There's a small SipnSave on Holbrooks Rd that imports it for an Irish club, so I doubt it's readily available. Cafferys used to be a beautiful Irish ale, but they don't import it in kegs into Australia anymore. The cans just don't do it justice.
