For the past couple of weeks I've been considering betting myself an ST. Have read through most of this thread, and done a bit of surfing on the net to get some research done.

Went to the lease company today to work out what the nett effect on my pay packet would be to novate lease one of these babies and relinquish the associate lease on the G6. Had talked with SWMBO about the concept and estimated impact, and it turns out the actual impact would be less than what we had discussed, so it looks like the go-ahead is probable.

Now, the reason why this might be premature is that I have not actually driven one yet. Two main reasons: first, I didn't want the heart to rule the head, as I knew that once I drove it (and assuming I loved it) the head wouldn't have a say in the matter . Secondly, there are no STs in this area, meaning I will need to head down to Melbourne to get a drive. Didn't want to waste my time if there was no way we could afford it.

So, I’m heading home tonight to discuss the matter a bit further with SWMBO, and then it’s time to organise a drive. Looks like we’ll be heading to Melbourne next weekend if I can arrange it. I can see why you guys are getting so excited so close to taking delivery!

I'll let you know how I go. If things progress well, I know I'll be abck in here soon asking questions of you guys.

once you drive one, there is no turning back. a truly awesome car.

That's exactly what I was afraid of if I test drove before getting the finances sorted out

Thanx Damo, but I've already made contact with City Ford and booked in a test drive for next Saturday.

Phase 2 has begun.

They are advertising a bulk purchase of 10 2013 plated STs on carsales at the moment, of which apparently three are spoken for. Advertised delivery date for all 10 is late May, early June.

Advertised price is $38,650 drive away. I guess there will be a bit of room to move on this as it is an advertised price. Is this a good price?

I'd be looking at the actual build dates, compliance does mean a great deal. I'm going to take a punt and say they are all 2012 build, 2013 compliance.

At $38,650 you are getting a bargain and I would be very surprised if they moved at all. Here in Sydney the best deal was able to get was $39,868 drive away and they were making bout $400 of profit in that.

It is a second hand 12 model and you have to pay on roads vs new 13 model for 38,659... it is a no brainer.

I've just put in a call to my local dealer asking him to prepare a P&A for me, letting him know of the City Ford price. You know it doesn't look good when he lets you know on the phone straight away that he doesn't know whether he'll be able to match their price or not.

Oh well, never hurts to ask the question.......

So they say.

I paid 35.8k for mine with Bonnet and weather shields, thats a Feb 2013 build/May compliance, brand spanking new.

That being said we spend almost 7 digits with this dealership every year on servicing some of our fleet so they tend to look after us

Wow! They would be making a loss on that for sure, they cost $34,800 from Ford factory to the dealer before they start adding anything on it!

Interesting. I had my local dealer call me back yesterday evening and, as expected, he wasn't able to match the City Ford price. By his reckoning, they are only making $77 on that sale. And that is before taking into account any delivery prep/time.

Best he could do was $39,650 drive away.

The City Ford ad states that these are $4850 below Ford RRP. My local dealer said that this is a couple of grand understated!

Hmm, Is it possible City Ford has purchased them directly from Ford Europe? Or USA even (not sure if those would ADR compliant though)? and bypassed the wholesale Australian price? I

Anyway, to my question: Anybody had the 15,000K service yet? What "fixed price service" price were you quoted?

It's not on the ford website yet, and when I booked in this morning I was quoted $325, which is $10 cheaper than the $335 quoted for the standard focus on ford.com.au.

In before "stealerships are a ripoff" - I still prefer to get it serviced there.

They only had a loss on the driveaway portion (so rego/CTP/plates/dealer delivery)

Their wholesale was 33.5k for the Tangerine. I believe the cost price is different to each dealer group depending on the amount of vehicles sold etc. The dealer i bought from owns the majority of the car dealerships in the area and they sell thousands of cars a month just from their main branch, let alone all of the other branches in the area.

Should be able to do a bit better then that, at 38 or 39 flat for a brand new 2013 build is a good price, shouldnt have too much issue shopping around to that price.

You will not find a US built version in right hand drive, and I really doubt Ford Australia would allow dealers any sort of bypass.

I should expand that comment to say that Ford itself would not allow any sort of bypass, just like any other multinational they will always guard their geographical advantages. Good example here is software companies
