i noticed on XR8GUY's link that the site says that uniden will be releasing DIGITAL scanners to accomodate for the new system the emergency services are going to use. does anyone here (especially RICHAD) know anything about these and how much they will cost? will thye come out in handheld form right off the mark and will they get all frequencies including the current system which is now in use?
also RICHAD, if possible could fordforums.com.au members get the full 16kbps feed instead of the 9kbps?
just a thought.

hehe let me just answer this first - i can answer your other question in more details later

- but on a side note, i have heard that police frequencies will be encoded so even if you have a digital scanner, you may not listen to those broadcast. Also uniden has no immediate plans to bring out digital scanners in OZ -

We currently have a bandwidth limitation of 6 gb a month. The 9 kbps stream will bring us dangerously close to that limit and that is only uploads. You have to remember that you download while you upload.

So for the time being, i would have to say no - just imagine other communities having the feeling that they are being treated unfairly.

Eagle Vale is within the Campbelltown district. I think somebody here will be writing up some short article about the switch to digital soon - but i sure will be out of a "job" when that switch occurs.

So it's not going to be possible to listen to the new digital system, unless your got some top $$$ gear on hand . Whcih would them make it illegal to listen tos seeing as it's encrypted, then again it's not illegal to hack sat foxtel but if you hack a live feed your in big shit if you get caught. Wonder if it'll work on the same princaple

If you need support, please contact me directly on my website @ www.scanneraustralia.com

Availability:

Tuesday: 16:00 - 02:00
Wednesday: 16:00 - 02:00

Friday: 20:00 - 6:00

Well the next time, let me know if something doesnt work and i get around to fixing it

You can get a good external antenna from your nearest dicksmith or tandy store. I am using a 1.5 meter external and it works nicely.

The best handheld antennas can be purchased from dicksmith too.

check www.mobileone.com.au

I found the mobileone antennas best of everything I tried.
