IF the car gets crushed and theres money owing ,those who dont care will not continue to pay the loan
They will then be asked to produce the car under the courts, then be summoned to court for failure to pay

The finance companies will seek full payment plus additional fees (court costs, sheriff costs ect)
Then these scum , will cry "Bankrupt"and then not pay a cent
Any possessions they have can be taken and on sold to recoup the costs , but most of these scum rarely own the shirt on their back
So then this loss for the finance company gets shared amongst the general public via increased loan fees
No different to a repoed car thats sold to recoup the money
IF theres a short fall, and there generally is,finance companies chase you for this amount

As for the comment of "working the fees off,via helping those in need "
Great in theory, but whos gunna run it
There will be a few pens pushers ,who want some pay for the priveledge, then those who front on site to supervise the activities, again more costs
The local community service helper in town ,runs service orders at the golf course,he volunteers his time , where as those on community service get credited of their fines at $20 an hour
IF you dont front, he wont sign you off,you can complain the work is hard (mowing grass, raking leaves, yep its hard)and get transfered to another community service area, again complain get moved somewhere else
All this while theres pen pushers getting paid
Community service orders are a crok, so are paying a % of fines threw SPER

Perhaps in the short term what you describe may be correct, but it may also see a change in how finance companies operate, perhaps insisting on a guarantor for the loan for people under a certain age (would of thought they'd do that now regardless)

if people had a look into the impound yard, or saw the cars being crushed, they would quickly realise the cars being impounded are not people's 'pride and joy' and definitely haven't had thousands of dollars poured into them.

sadly enough, it is the people that have spent a lot of coin that are most discriminated against. when these laws came in most of the do gooders thought these would be the types of cars that would be caught.

most of the time the offenders are drugged up halfwits who couldn't care about cars or anyone else for that matter. nothing to do with 'hoons'.

on another note, racing legend and team owner garry rogers recently beat the vic transport dept and got his HOON plates back.

Guarantors are still there, but IF you went guarantor for someone, there car was crushed and they chased you for the money and issues of repoing your goods , youd go of ya head,im sure i would

I was guarantor for a mate years ago, his car was repoed and there was about 5 grand short fall , between the payout and the sale at auction
He refused to pay , i never got any letters of demand or anything , he being the legend he was went the volunteer bankrupt route
Then reminds me how great it is to not fullfill your financial obligations
Its crazy people go bankrupt over $500 fone bills

They keep the good cars inside the warehouse.

It's ok, everyone thinks its a good idea.

If the police have the power to do this, what stops them in the future to burn your house down for 3 minor offences. Less power to them the better. There needs to be a more positive roll within the community, the idea helping road accident victims is perfect, but the goverment can't make money off that, so it wont take off the ground.

I think some in here need to understand the finance code better, ditto for the bankruptcy act.

The cars that have been crushed currently "if" under finance would have been on unsecured loans, im yet to speak with a finance company who will secure a 5+ yo car against a loan.

But just like Vic with 3km+ your gone mantra crushing cars wont solve the problem, but gov co will still pat each other on the back and say what a great job they have done convincing the community they have "solved" the problem.

Flappist brought up a great point re: BMX/Skateboarders end result for majority of people that enjoy driving, you will still get your 1% who will be completely reckless, but majority will enjoy the outlets provided.

"Wide Open Road" (ref other topic in pub section) shows that "hooning" is far from being a new thing, seems allot of you forget when you were young as well, they let them loose in VIC on an abandoned runway and the problem on the streets disapeared almost over night as well.....now the answer is just a bigger stick and more $$.
