Guys,
I'm able to fill up my ST for the first time this afternoon. What's the general consensus with regards to which fuel to use. The manual says 95 octane but tempted to use 98 octane as I understand they are better. Should I use one over the other or does it not matter. Interested to hear what others are using and if there are any advantages.

Cheers.

I would say personal preference. I use 98 but don't let that sway you, it is happy on either. Alternate and see what's best for you.

Mine has only ever had BP98, as did my old XR5 Turbo.

The main difference is additives

Shell optimax used to have a reputation for making bike engines detonate

I have only used 98, the price difference between 95 and 98 is only 4c where as between e10 and 95 is like 14 cents, the way I see it, im already paying massively to go from e10 so may as well pay that little bit more and stick with 98, not only that my falcon was tuned to 98 so been used to the prices for the last couple of years

Ditto. Prior to that I had a hot hatch which required it too. So I've been a long-term 98 buyer (since 2005).

The difference being that those vehicles were recalled - this is a technical service bulletin which is nothing more than advising dealers of a potentially common customer complaint and the procedure on how to fix it.

For this TSB to be recognized over here I would dare say that it would first need to be recognized by Ford of Europe seeing as they manufactured the car in the first place.

At the moment Ford America have released this for vehicles that they have manufactured.

From the Mountune Facebook page
Quote:
Ford Offers Focus ST and Fiesta ST with Power-Boosting Mountune Upgrades

Ford announces official power-boosting Mountune upgrades for Focus ST and Fiesta ST
Mountune Focus ST delivers 275 PS –10 PS more than a Porsche Boxster for £15,000 less – races 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in less than 6 seconds
Mountune Fiesta ST delivers 215 PS and springs 0-100 km/h (0-62mph) in 6.7 seconds – outsprinting Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 AMG Sport
Official upgrades can be fitted in 90 minutes or less and are covered by Ford warranty; available in selected European markets from September costing from £1,225 for Focus and £599 for Fiesta – each model still costs less than standard rivals the Volkswagen Golf GTi, and the Peugeot 208 GTi and Renaultsport Clio 200
COLOGNE, Germany, July 16, 2013 – Ford’s critically acclaimed Focus ST and Fiesta ST hot hatches just got hotter with the introduction of official Mountune upgrades.

The packages are developed by race engine and road-car performance specialist Mountune, and boost output from the Focus ST’s 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine to 275 PS; 10 PS more than from a Porsche Boxster that, at £38,237, costs £15,000 more.

Even the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 would be left with a rear view of the Mountune-upgraded Focus ST, which can sprint from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in less than 6 seconds – more than half second faster than the standard Focus ST.

Ford is also offering an official Mountune upgrade for the Fiesta ST, which will increase the maximum power available to 215 PS*, enabling acceleration of 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.7 seconds, compared with 6.9 seconds on the factory model – faster than a £35,865 Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 AMG Sport 7G-Tronic Plus.

The Mountune upgrades boost both Focus ST and Fiesta ST in-gear acceleration. Peak Focus ST torque boosted to 400 Nm improves 50-100 km/h (31-62 mph) acceleration in fourth gear by 0.8 seconds to 4.9 seconds; peak Fiesta ST torque boosted to 320 Nm* improves 50-100 km/h (31-62 mph) acceleration in fourth gear by 0.7 seconds to 5.7 seconds.

Any Mountune-appointed Ford dealer will be able to fit the upgrade quickly – less than 60 minutes for the Fiesta ST, and less than 90 minutes for the Focus ST. Both are fully compatible with the Ford warranty, meaning Mountune modified vehicles continue to be covered against mechanical failure for three years or 60,000 miles from the original date of purchase.

“Ford’s ST models already deliver blistering performance – for these Mountune upgrades we have squeezed out every last drop of fun and served it on a plate to the fans that are as passionate about performance as we are,” said Tyrone Johnson, Ford Team RS engineering manager.

The Focus ST Mountune upgrade is available in silver and in black and includes a cast alloy inlet duct, high-flow air filter element, larger alloy intercooler and unique calibration. The Fiesta ST version has a re-modelled air box base with secondary inlet duct, a high-flow filter element and unique calibration.

The Focus ST Mountune upgrade costs £1,225 for silver, £1,275 for black to still come in less than the standard Volkswagen Golf GTi. The Fiesta ST Mountune upgrade costs £599**, to sell for less than both the standard Peugeot 208 GTi and Renaultsport Clio 200 Turbo models.

“We worked hand-in-hand with Ford engineers to deliver what we believe is the best bang-for-buck value on the market,” said David Moore, marketing manager, Mountune.

The Fiesta ST and Focus ST Mountune upgrades will be available in the UK in July and August respectively and selected European markets from September.

Keep us updated, for me this would be very tempting.

I know Ford dealerships in New Zealand offered the Mountune upgrade on the Xr5, so there should be no reason why they can't bring it to Australia. Just needs dealership support

Well, I'm starting to think that I'm not meant to get this car. Perhaps the Falcon gods are mad at me for moving away from them.....

Ordered the car in mid-May, with an expected delivery date of early to mid June.

Early June comes around, and no expected date yet.

Late June, and still no delivery date, although "we are closer"

Early July, and the car has arrived at the docks, but still no clear date of delivery. Tentatively book in date for pick up.

Second week of July and we have another tentative date for pick-up. Allow a bit of extra time for car to arrive at dealer and get pre-delivery sorted out.

Can't get insurance sorted out until I have a VIN. Lease company won't transfer funds until they sight a CoC for the insurance. Can't collect car until $$$ have cleared. Can't get VIN until car arrives at dealer.

Had sent down private to plates to be put onto car when registered. On Tuesday dealer asks if plates are in my name. Ring Vicroads to find they are in wife's name. Extra hassle means car will not be picked up to Saturday now. Dealer will leave registration to day before I pick it up. Vicroads will take 48 hours to process reassignment of plates. Wife is working, so have to wait until I get home Wednesday to have her sign the form to have plates reassigned. Can we register the car in her name, therefore plates are not an issue. No, because the car needs to be registered in my name for leasing purposes
Only option is to register with normal plates and then re-register once reassignment has been done.

I call Vicroads and ask if the can process form ASAP. They check to see it has already been done (fastest I have ever seen a public agency work!

Call dealer this morning to advise to put on private plates. Dealer asks if I have heard form leasing company. Call leasing company to find they have stopped ALL leases until such time as they can get clarification on proposed FBT changes.

So, car is here, has been cleaned and is ready to go (sans registration) but lease company won't pay money which means i can't pick it up.

Worse thing is, until I know what the FBT rule changes are and how they may affect me, I have a signed contract with a dealer for a car that I may not financially be able to proceed with dependent on the extent of the proposed FBT changes.

Am I jinxed...???

Noob question here.
Is there a positive resist in the manual shifter when you're putting it into 1st gear? How do you know for sure that you're in 1st and not Reverse?

Most modern cars will beep once you put them in to reverse... especially since these cars come with reverse sensors. You should also see the reverse camera come on

This bloke on whirlpool reckons his dealer is doing the TSB for the shift bang without hassle:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...93700&p=6#r112

Supposedly no convincing required.

ALso, the mountune upgrade is in SMH today with comment from Ford "considering it for 2014":

http://smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/f...718-2q6ua.html

Hopefully if it does come it's available aftermarket rather than only available with new car purchase of a "Focus ST FPV" or something.

Great links, lol mine was all booked in a dealer to get it done too until they looked into thoroughly and spoke with Ford Australia, the part numbers aren't even used here. I was going to leave it for a while and then ring Ford CRC and ask them about it as hopefully they would have caught up on it

I will happily eat my own words if that actually happened.

Ford Australia are not going to specifically order parts in from America to fix an issue that neither they or the maker of the car, Ford Europe have recognized.

The parts are not available in Australia and that TSB number is not recognized in DCC = not possible at this point in time.

In time something may change and they might change their tune, but at this moment in time I would be 100% confident in saying that this has not happened.
