Maybe a spider chewed a hole in it? If it's rusted or been eaten away, what coolant do you use (just so others know what to avoid....)

No rust or corrosion anyware as such JC I usually change the coolant every 2 years regardless , the inside of the timing case has a teflon type coating on it it looks like it has just been blasted away on the edges ware the water enters and exits the block, and in the very corner a worm hole has started, I will get some better shots at the weekend
Gets better still. FORD no longer stock or supply new covers and when they did they top out at $250 plus. No luck with after market either yet as the AU being unique piece of ..... the water pump outlet is rs about to every other windsor V8 .. ah well back to the drawing board

Impressive. My target when I eventually get to the drags will be sub 14. I will be more than happy with that! Maybe I am aiming too high (or is that low?)!

Following with interest.

Most of the stock Ts run low 14s with a bit of a tickle hi 13s is a given the LTD in full flight less the Zorst and spare on a good day low 14s or hi 13s wouldn"t be unreasonable Stu best you get it down here for the next drag day..
Meanwhile back in the XR just took a couple of shots of the water blasting inside the water pump, quite surprising considering it only has 100000ks on it and always had fresh coolant, almost looks like it may have had casting sand left behind and has blasted the coating off .
And just for for future reference The 3 medium size bolts from the water pump fit the harmonic balance threads to fit the puller on with the main balancer bolt undone 2/3 s of the way its a easy removal with just the thermo fans taken out,

I see they say you can use a tea strainer aswell, (home made job), I wonder how it will work, I suspose aslong as you keep an eye on the temp and make sure it doesn't get to hot and just check the filter every few hundred klm's since the 1'st use to get rid of all the build up, eventually it should go down to nothing, not a bad idea to try out atleast.
