Finally had some time to fix the teething problems from Sandown. Heres a few pics.

She overheated on the final run due to poor airflow and a cavataiting water pump. (Got the standarpump for sale if anyone needs a vertually new pump.

New Thermo's. The EL setup I had on it worked well in the pits and dummy grid but became an air restrictor when on the track

Added stone guard mesh while the rad was out.

Also made up some cover's to stop the air going around the rad.

Next job, Make the brake pedal feel more solid.

The rubber disc on the left is a standard reactionary disc out of the booster. It's there to stop the brakes grabbing when stopping on the road. Makes the pedal soggy on the track. The piece on the left is a piece of nylon I turned up, I've made 3 of them in different thicknesses to improve pedal height as well.

That's all for now. Fitting up a firewall brace and finishing the interior today.

Congrats on an amazing recreation. I had planned to do a similar thing, I finally located a 351 XC manual coupe but it was just too original to modify so the project was scrapped. Nice to see somebody take up the challenge, well done.
Cheers, Greg

Thanks Greg. When I picked picked up the body after buying it on ebay it was way worse than the pics showed so even though we believe it to be a Superbird it was really only good for the crusher the way it was. Good plan not to tear up a good original car for a racer.

I plan to give it another run at Winton next week to see if we have the overheating issue sorted, I'll post some track pics then.

Cheers Graeme

So an update.... Rebuilt the alternator and dropped in the new radiator before HTA. All good. Took the car to Winton last Friday and lasted 2 laps before the alt light came on and she overheated again...... Ah crap we say. So get back to the pits and of all things the Alt pulley has worked loose and fallen off. Never had that before, so after a 2 1/2hr trip to Albury to EMA, (thanks Matt!), we got it going again and did 25 mins of almost trouble free running. I am struggling to downshift to 2nd so the toploader is coming out for a rebuild.... Happy days.

Hey Graeme
Are you going to give it a run at sandown?

I can't believe its 12 months since the car first hit the track at this same event
Cheers Tony

Hi Tony

Not this year unfortunately, I'll be in the US. I'll try to do another Test and Tune day at Winton before PI Historics. It was a great day, would have had heaps of track time if not for the problems

There is one of those around. It's the one that was built in the USA. It came home around 6 years ago.

If I was going to build another car it would be a sports sedan. Maybe Jim Richards Big M Coupe if the original is gone or a cologne capri

That setup of 2 thermos screwed to the radiator is a brave move. I cooked a clevo with that setup. The ef/el is a much better way. Without a shroud, it wont pull air thru the radiator very well. If it works for you, keep it but be wary.

Hi Doc, yes it was never to be permanent, it was to find out where the issues lay. THe EL fans I had on it were great in the pits but on the track wouldn't allow enough natural airflow so the car overheated.

I now have a custom 8.4mm centre 4 core rad in it with 1 only unshrouded fan. Even at Winton I know don't need the fan on and she sits right on the thermostat when idling in the pits.

I'm still tempted to throw an underdriven pulley on the crank to slow up the waterpump speed.

Cheers Graeme

What did you do for brakes Graeme? They look pretty wild.
