NSW appears to be near flatlining with new cases. Also the second dose Covid vaccination rate is measurably outpacing the first. First vaccinations increased by just under half the second dose tally. I’m genuinely concerned that effort to reach some of the disadvantaged communities will scale back heavily and smartly once we get the “target” numbers, irrespective of any civic responsibility.

You might find you'll have more credibility if you referenced an Australian based Law website rather than a US one. There can be vast differences in law between countries, especially between Commonwealth and US law (I did not find it easy to determine where the site was hosted, so assumed the US).

And even if your website was based on Australian Law, you'd prefer to take the word of that website over the word of Dr. Marco Rizzi, a specialist in medical law at the University of Western Australia? How do you work out which one is 'garbage'?

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT September 22nd 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

1,663 new cases for Australia and 8 deaths so the CMR is 1.312%.

24 new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.655%.

The UK had 33,560 cases yesterday and 166 deaths for a CMR of 1.801%.

149,669 new cases in the USA yesterday and 2,582 deaths sees CMR at 1.612%.

Other notable points:
Russia passes 200k (official) deaths;
North America passes 52M cases;

Syria (278);
Gabon (606);
Singapore (1,457); and
Belarus (1,989)

... recorded new highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for the 10 day period while Mexico and Azerbaijan drop below.

NSW/VIC

NSW records 1,064 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 0.9881 (from 0.9851) while the actual line is a bit further above the predictive trend line and based on the 4th order polynomial, that trend line now has a downward curve.

VIC records 766 cases in the current period (another high for this outbreak) and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 1.2197 (from 1.10702) while the actual line is now above the predictive trend line.

Go and read the schedule associated with the Australian Poisons Standard (2021) and you might understand what the Australian 'legal' definition of a poison is as it includes Pharmacy medicines, prescription only medicines and controlled drugs.

Here's another definition for you:

In internet slang, a troll is a person who posts inflammatory, insincere, digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses, or manipulating others' perception. This is typically for the troll's amusement, or to achieve a specific result such as disrupting a rival's online activities or manipulating a political process. Even so, Internet trolling can also be defined as purposefully causing confusion or harm to other users online, for no reason at all.

One of the things that has me puzzled is the disparity in mortality rates in the current outbreaks between Victoria and NSW with the former having an adjusted CMR of 0.185% and the latter 0.514% - almost three times higher.

I've got no logical explanation unless the higher numbers of cases in NSW caused some issues in health care ot the higher percentage of hospitalised Victorian patients being admitted to ICU is improving outcomes.

I prefer Russell’s definition of a troll.

You’ve been here at Fordforuns.com.au for “15 mins”, 50% of your posts are Troll posts in the Covid-19 thread.

Any chance of overlaying those two charts, Russ? I'd be interested to see how Vic is tracking compared to NSW at the same stage since the outbreak occurred in the respective states. This would also then allow some prediction as to when we'd see the peak in Vic. Looking at the trend lines, it looks like Vic is about 400 cases lower than NSW (@ day 73; Vic ~700 cases, NSW ~1100 cases)

Also, would it be possible to overlay the death rates on the same graph? Again, we'd then be able to predict the rates in Vic.

Shared previously. Lots of doctors and nurses on twitter (with their blue ticks) also saying the same thing. Could be a contributing factor, system can't cope, people aren't getting the care needed..... Vic won't be any different once we hit 1000s.

Don’t believe the Covid coping spin, those on the road know the health system is in meltdown

I have an honest belief that certain ethnicities are more predisposed to mortality in this outbreak of disease. This is not some imputation of inferiority, just a “thing”, and I have no idea if it’s genetic or phenotypical. Sydney seems to have had (proportionally) a lot of deaths in people from a middle eastern background. America seemed to have a lot of deaths in people with South American genes.

I'm not tracking the daily death rates just the totals for this outbreak but here is the overlay trend for Vic/NSW 2021 and Vic 2020 outbreaks.

One of the unexpected things is that the adjusted CMR in the UK has been rising since 'freedom day' - in the fortnight prior to that day, the CMR was 0.206% which was a lot better than their whole of pandemic average at that time which was 2.435%.

Despite the reasonably high vaccination rates, that figure has mostly climbed each subsequent 14 day period with:

Fortnight 1 (548,676 cases) having a CMR of 0.239%;
Fortnight 2 (410,237 cases) having a CMR of 0.376%;
Fortnight 3 (490,412 cases) having a CMR of 0.372%; and
Fortnight 4 (525,136 cases) having a CMR of 0.419% to date although we are still counting.

This has also been the case in Florida with the fortnight prior to derestriction having a CMR of 1.422% and their whole of pandemic rate was pretty close at 1.399% but it's currently 1.452%:

Fortnight 1 (203,325 cases) having a CMR of 1.585%;
Fortnight 2 (305,305 cases) having a CMR of 1.635%; although
Fortnight 3 (315,564 cases) might be lower based on the to-date data but there is also a significant delay in reporting deaths.

One hypnotises on Sydney's numbers is that certain groups are not keen to get tested even when they get symptoms and only calling an ambulance when things get worse or after it is too late.

Nobody wants to name any ethnic backgrounds or cultural heritages; Aunty G defended her health minister when he made some comments about groups not following the rules.
https://www.sbs.com.au/news/gladys-b...3-f742afebcc1c

I live in one of the worst affected LGA, higher numbers come from certain suburbs - not whole LGA; only way out is to wait till full vaccination numbers reach their target.

Agree. The time for diplomacy is over. Add to that what the CEO of the Shrine of Remembrance revealed happened yesterday, it should be a hangable offence.

Sad thing is the tradies that have been attending with a genuine cause will have their faces plastered all over social media now, and they'll get caught up in all of this.

If you are going to attend a protest, know who is organising it and what their cause stands for.

i would have thought those tradies trying to do the right thing but wanting to protest about a shut down would continue to do the right thing and be wearing masks anyway?

You can always spot those not genuine because they're not wearing masks. Hell, pre covid those that didn't want to be caught doing something wrong wore masks to protect their identity. Anti-vaxxers and covid deniers so dumb that can't follow the basics.

Bloody toddlers who do the opposite of what people tell them to do because they're contrarian (which is this whole issue, get told to do something, they get desperate to not do it. Get the vax - no. Don't be a fascist - no. We'll make it mandatory - I'm only vaxx hesitant but won't get it now because you told me I had to). Most of us grow up losing this attitude because life isn't easy if everything is a battle, parents and others force you to grow up. But some remain ignorant and spoilt, just cruising through life and become extreme right wing or antivaxx knobs.

So anyone who had their face plastered over SM was asking for it! Doubly so because they're outed by their own crowd wanting to stream for clicks and likes.

The legal definition of poison:

Any medicine that is not prescribed correctly for any patient can be deemed poison; think you are missing the point why poison can be labeled on medication.
