This is why I think its not congestion that are causing my internet woes:
We're in the middle of peak times at the moment and I'm pulling this: ![]() Other times in off peak I'm only pulling 4mbps. |

Yeah there is little bit of a loss. That was on my phone via wireless access point that does go via a dumb switch to the ntd. My desktop only has a switch between it and the nbn router and it is usually 95+, never higher than 98. At the end of the day its bloody fast. I went from adsl2+ with an average of 7Mbps download so you do notice it but mostly on aussie sites. Obviously it doesn't help if you have a slow source.

Tell me about it, I don't actually know where the Exchange is here but the tech that wired it up said the same thing that in all the ADSL2+ connections he's done our was the highest reading he's got.

You guys have nothing on us. Same ookla test Down = 1.92mbps, up = 0.51 mbps and ping (whatever that is) 63 ms. And this is adsl2 and I can tell you it doesn't even feel that fast sometimes.

I recently made the switch from ADSL 2+ to FTTN, best ADSL 2+ speed was 3.14Mbps which tapered off to around an average of 2.65Mbps. Now on FTTN speed is consistantly sitting at 23.65Mbps, so I'm as happy as I can be without FTTP.

As for value, I was looking at TPG for it and its $99/month at the highest speed for unlimited which I think isn't too bad...

I will be able to get FTTP next week. Quite exciting really, I have been waiting a long time for this. It should make online gaming much more fun.

NBN asked if they could put a tower up on my farm. I told them to bugger off.
Now we find out that Telstra ran fibre optic down the highway but they (NBN) refuse to wire it up. My neighbors and I offered to pay ourselves to get it wired to our houses...nope can't do that! I am so bloody sick of government bickering, honestly, Abbott has got a lot to answer for over this disaster that is the "new" more expensive and slower NBN.

Mercury Bullet, why did you tell them to bugger off?
(I'm asking objectively, just wondering your reasons - no hidden agenda). |

It's a farm. For starters they take arable land away which is used for cropping and secondly you have to provide 24 hour access (taking more land.) Thirdly I don't want an aerial shooting out microwaves near the house.
Sadly security is a big deal on farms now, anything gets stolen from animals to big 4wd tractors. Yes they offer compensation, but no thanks. Lots of reasons. But it's made so much worse when you find out that fibre is running past, that incidentally they didn't and had no intention of telling us about.

Just to add, there's a bloke up the road who let Optus build a 300ft tower on his place. Simply because he thought it would help the community. It has and spectacularly, we now have mobile phone coverage where Telstra refused.
We asked NBN to put their equipment on that tower...NO! Because they would have had to pay Optus for the rental. It's mindboggling! If there were no other options I would have seriously considered it, but there are options.

Ahh yep, I would've told them to take a hike too! Can't believe they want to put it there but not compensate the landowner.

They offered compensation.
But too many downsides.

Just had NBN installed this afternoon. Landline no longer works and speed is the same as before. Been on the phone with Telstra for the last 24 minutes and still waiting for resolution.
Update: It took 35 minutes for Telstra to tell me that the phone now has to be plugged into the new modem to work. ![]() And the speed I am getting is not any faster than what I had with my Bigpond Cable plan. More proof of governments peeing OUR money into the wind!!!!

Had mine put in a couple of weeks ago. Never used the landline as anything but to carry the ADSL2+.
Used to get phenomenal ADSL2+ speeds, for where I am. 4 blocks from the exchange and 20Mbps+ down, 1.3 up - and that was with a line I could *hear* the noise on. VDSL is a bit of a different story - and the wiring is routed differently too. Still very happy with it, but 69/37Mbps isn't really stretching the possibilities of a 100/40 plan. And of course, it's a dead-end technology. |

its still working half decently the main problem is the isps being cheap and not spending the money to give you decent speeds not the fiber.

Don't bet on it. It's just buck-passing by NBNco. In many cases the problem is the copper not being up to the task. It's in appalling condition. The government knew this when they changed it to FTTN, but chose to ignore the report that said it would be a bad idea.

Ok I'm confused I worked for a line co doing a transmission line where the earth wire at the top had 7strands of fibre optic in it between sub stations. Why do that if the gov was going to stay with Noah's ark technology.
