Back in June 2021 I was in need of a new daily and was particularly interested in a VF2 SSV Redline.

At the time for an SSV redline you were looking at upwards of 60-70k for 2015-16 models with well over 100,000kms.

I ended up with a 2017 Caprice V with 55,000kms, additional features, additional space and paid $45k.

I thought that was pretty good value for an LS3 family hack compared with the SS and Calais variants.

At least with those things I can see them being rugged enough for towing/working to pay themselves off, but a Corolla.

Couldn't pay me enough to drive a Toymota (Supra excepted), I'd fall asleep at the wheel, I don't care how reeeeeeeeliable they are.

Mustn’t be in too much of a hurry to sell it… It was sitting in their showroom nearly a year ago when I bought a car there.,

A subset of this thread, wondering what smaller car “nuggets” are good buying as a generality - not per specific examples. Good meaning durable in the face of a little neglect, and easily resourced in repair.

When I spoke to them last year, they weren’t too fussy about moving it…
Not sure who actually owns it? Possibly the DP?

I think we need to do a revaluation on the best nugget cars, what's the best value for spondoolies in this new ridiculous nugget market we're experiencing.

What's the best nugget under $3000, must link to carsales links.

Feels like the days of getting a $750 car with remaining rego are long gone.

Are we talking little cars? Starlet or Echo might be great nugget buzzbox contenders

Or just something that can take punishment? Saw a couple of AUII Fairmonts 200,000km $3400 on carsales, that kind of thing

I was thinking smaller cars, yes. Barina, Startle, Sirion, CE Mirages/Lancers, the Getz as mentioned, Pug 206, low spec Clio?

Getz was a good little thing, and we had an Echo which was the best little buzz box in 1.3 manual. Seriously good build quality. Have a Yaris fetish even now as a result of this.

The XC (Spanish built Opel) Barina was a cracker.
Handled well, went like a cut cat, and well screwed together........... but be wary, let down by the usual Opel electronic unexplainable gremlins.

Mother in law has an echo. She is a ridiculously gentle and slow driver, presents as nearly new with 220,000kms. Never let her down since buying it at 80000kms. There is just nothing wrong with it.

There’s a reason p plated echos and yarii are parked in front of seemingly every other house near me. They work. My daughters was 22 years old and like most Toyotas never seemed to age mechanically. It was snapped up by an Uber eats delivery driver, who didn’t even want a test drive before committing.

Here's a Yaris ZR in that distinctive canary yellow

How it was mocked for a 4 speed auto, but I bet it still works fine and the chrome shifter is so stylish!

https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...21974460/?Cr=0

I like this model quite a lot. Notice $21K ask - they were not far off that brand new 9 years ago, welcome to auto pricing clown world
