Fines like these are only a symptom of our over policed, over taxed society, what would be wrong with asking you to switch them off rather than dishing out a $110 fine?I mean you where pulled over already, its not like he had to make any extra effort to ask you to do so. So i would agree this is a pretty harsh penalty for a minor infraction.
At the end of the day Police stopped enforcing the law and became tax collectors along time ago so these kind of things shouldnt surprise any of us. Today I payed a visit to the Police station. They had accidently double booked my defect inspection and they sent me to the Police station to get an extension on the 72 hours they originally gave me to have the car off the road. When I arrived at the Police station the female police officer behind the counter refused to go outside and look at my car because it was raining???? So I had to sit in the Police station until it stopped raining(thankfully only 15 minutes later) before she would go outside and check my vehicle to ensure it has indeed been raised to the legal level. This is the kind of behaviour that makes people like me dislike Police, I await the replys from the former police officers blah blah blah its a tough job etc etc Well I agree one of my closest friends is a D so I know all about it, but nobody forces them to be Police officers it is a choice they make and a job like anyone else has so complain all you want. My oppinion is biased as I have had nothing but bad experiances with Police on the road my whole life, I also would concede that Govt policy reagrding fines etc etc is not helping the image of Police either. Look back over the last five years at the annual road toll, is all this revenue raising/law enforcement making a real difference or not. I would say no, we had more deaths in 2004,05,06 and 07 than we did in 2003 so what impact are they making other than lightning everybodies wallets? "end rant" |

Good on her for making you wait, what doofus would want to go outside and check your car whilst its raining ffs?
Why was it needing a check to start with, ahhh defect inspection .... Nothing about population growth or affordability has to do with number of cars on the road over the last 5 years? |

Ok next time I get pulled in for a breath test and its raining I'll say to the police officer "can you hang on its raining and I'll sit in my car for fifteen minutes" as if thats gonna fly, I'd end up in handcuffs. As to why I was there, it was to fix a mistake made by the DMV in regard to a double booked defect inspection. Why I was there has no impact on the requirement for the Police to do their job tho does it? |

Ok what ever smokes you reality... Why would you need to be at the DMV to start with, not your fault hey, but hell what do I know, maybe I should get the police to come over and watch me water the garden at allocated times :togo: seems we all need them to baby sit us. Take responsibility for your own actions or is it easier to have a whine? dont answer rhetorical question Last edited by Laminge; 30-06-2008 at 06:18 PM. |

If you're one that liked your wan&$r lights on permanently and you pulled into an RBT station and told by plod to turn off the lights, how many meters after they pulled out would you think they'd turn them back on again? |

I should also add my car was parked in the station carpark which was partly undercover so there was no risk to the safety of the officer. I also fail to see anywhere in my post where I am whining about being defected, I have been defected several times, I accept it is the car and it is my choice to continue to use the vehicle knowing the risk I am taking so again I fail to see your point. Then you close with the age old cliche about taking responsibility for my own actions while at the same time you make excuses for why the Police shouldnt have to be responsible for their actions. I dont have fog lights on my car at all btw, i find it slightly annoying when people use them unnecessarily, do I think they deserve a fine absolutely not. It comes back to the Police using their discretion, if the driver says they have been driving in poor conditions and they felt they needed to use them then so be it, they are designed to improve vision and therefore safety. At the end of the day my position remains the same, I see it as another easy score for the Police Officer who is under pressure to meet his daily quota. I guess the Police officer would rather do people for frivilous infractions if it means meeting his/her quota and thus not coping the wraith of their superior officer for not meeting their required quota for the day/week/month Last edited by fordfan351; 30-06-2008 at 10:59 PM. |

Fog lights on is only easy pickings because its like a " Look at me" advertisment. Harder to pick someone only doing 5-10k over the limit or useing mobile etc. Either way it is illegal to use them unless in "adverse conditions" . And adverse conditions isn't in the middle of a bright sunny day.

As a truckie that spends a LOT of time driving up and down the highway, I really am sick of seeing some idiot with their extremely bright fog lights on driving towards me, when I flash them, they flash me back as thought I don't realise they are on low beam. Fog lights on, even during the day, when there is no fog around is extremely dangerous. If I see enough people with fog lights blinding me, it gives me a headache and makes it harder for me to do my job. And you'll find most other truckies agree.
