I must admit, those official photos look so much better than the original spyshots. Even still, I can't say I'm a huge fan of the design. The Senator looks OK though, besides all the grey lower bumpers, side skirts, etc.

The fastest 0-100km/h I've ever heard of for a stock BF F6 was 4.96 sec coincidentally... HSV's matched that, or so it seems. Typhoon still has a clear value advantage though... $59,810 start price, or $61,010 for one with a far better auto (ZF 6HP26 > GM 6L80E), and factory forced induction, meaning easy huge power gains.

I'm starting to like the look of the Clubby and GTS. I think once seen in the metal it will look better. Although the senator is a complete shocker. When the VZ version was released i didn't like it but it grew on me. Definetely not this model. It's the model for the blind. The interior is very impressive. I love the seats.

Don't quote me on this, But i belove the VS started to be the best selling large car before the VT came along. It's first year the VT might have been it's best?. I'm not sure how long after the VT did the AU come out.

You ever had the kickdown adjusted?.

Wouldnt it be better to research your comments first and quote facts rather than make a broad statement like that and preface it with a disclaimer "Don't quote me on this" in case you're wrong???

Yeah but the GTS doesnt have anymore power than the clubsport so whats the point. (where in other models the GTS has been the king of the lineup).

So baiscly hsv are asking you to buy off trim levels and not power levels.

It seems they have shuffled the line up from Clubsport and Clubsort R8 to Clubsport R8 and GTS.

I have to admit, the offical Photos do look good. I like the fact they have wider rear wheels than the fronts.

This has been FPV's approach for some time, the GT-P is the luxury spec and the GT is the "sports" spec car, same power plant though.
HSV have probably realised that consumers are looking for package and refinement destinctions more than just power numbers to differentiate models.

I am not sure that is the case with either. I think the GT and the GT-P are both firmly on the sport side of the equation and like wise the clubbie and the R8 leaving the Senator to be the Luxury item in the range with FPV having no direct competitor.

The GT-P was meant to be sport but more. More braking more sport seats more sport look.

To me FPV can chalk the Eseries as a victory of sorts because there is some confused marketing going on here.

They have taken their models down town after spending years building them up. To return the GTS name like they have suggests to me that they felt they needed to trade on badge engineering to get back to the front.

They could have retained the club sport and the club sport R8 moniker just as they were but have instead decided to return the GTS name as an appeal more then an exercise in merit. When they do this sort of stuff it’s a bloody good thing the GTHO name hasn't been touched.

So what have the achieved in doing so.

Well there is no engine exclusivity. There is no suspension exclusivity unless you count the track option of the MRC. There is no exclusivity with the wheels as Holden offer 20 inch items as options on the SSV, although there is certainly a width issue with the rear rubber. A nice move too I must say.

At least on the surface there isn't enough to warrant this car being called a GTS. It would have looked the same had it been called the R8 and I guess would have been sufficient to return the R8 name to being as it was first intended.

To call the new R8 down spec’ed is a bit rough but that’s what HSV have actually done. I am not a fan of doing this and I donor see what HSV thought they would gain by doing so. The obvious reason is the competition. While the name of the product really doesn't mean that much in the overall scheme it showing a crack in the marketing armour of HSV to me.

I don’t think the new GTS is fitting of the name or the hype it was returned on.

Our media and presumably the owners of either marque have been crying out for greater distinction. FPV was always meant to strengthen the Ford brand the reason why it carries Ford badges. The same can't be said of HSV as they are trying to pull off the magical illusion. E series tries to further that endeavour towards European lines.

Good points, however don't forget unlike the GT name the original GTS name has been watered down with 6cyl and lower/smaller spec V8 engine variants over the years so when i think of "GTS" from a historical perspective the only version that has genuine cred was the 327/350 Chev powered versions...
This is where i think Ford have a slight "badge awareness" advantage over Holden because the GT was only avaliable with the premium engine option.
Historically HO was another level up again.

That’s a cop out but probably a fair call. ;) Looks like it will be the only HSV to offer the Bose system anyway. Bit surprised the Senator doesn't get that at least.

Do you know what has happened to the AP racing brake package?

Default ugly tail lights

There is hardly any options, and i hate how you can see where the original tail light use to go. Have a look at the senator rear shot with bobtail and you can see that ugly panel that looks like and after thought.
http://www.hsv.com.au/index_eseries.asp than click on cars than senator to see rear shot of a silver one

Interesting review on drive, their comments are a mixture of luke warm praise and their obvious obligation to "talk up" the new model.
Sounds like the LS2 6.0 is virtually unchanged:A clever use of 98 octane and the new power measurement system has effectively seen a modest increase in real terms of 2kw.
HSV's Alleged Performance improvements (untested by anyone yet) are attributed to better grip from the new rear end.

"it’s by far the best car to ever come out of HSV’s Clayton production line, even if it doesn’t quite have the performance some were speculating."

They also point out its carrying over 100kgs extra and didnt feel "wildly" faster than the VZ.

Now that the official pics are out, i have thought about the design and taken it in and have formed an opinion, most of my previous comments stand, particularly on the rear lights.

The front when taking a good long hard look at it, doesn't seem to bode that well with the headlights. They have gone for a mid aggressive look on the lower dam and foglights, yet the headlights are as conservative as the Omega, and for this reason, they don't seem to blend well or seem to belong within the design theme. So taking that into account, i think the front that seems to blend the best is the Senator, because it has a less aggressive look/plastic work on the front.

There's nothing in the E-Series that would really attract me to buy one, for what my requirements are and the intended purpose, the FPV's still compete very well, and i must say, i still prefer the FPV styling.

I don't mind the GTS. Don't like the Clubsport R8 or Senator though. Now I hope someone pits the GTS against the F6 Typhoon, that would be an interesting match up. Could throw in the GT too... but IMO the F6 is FPV's fast-car king at the moment.

****** pffft least his aussie 304 doesnt sound like a muffled fart like your GenIII. Id much rather an Aussie 5L V8 holden then a Gen III apart from there downsides as you correctly stated, the 5L sounds heaps better for one and wasnt plagued by the problems of the GenIII (that i know of) that said thats why i chose my TE50 over a BA XR8 i prefer the Ford 5L aswell for varing reasons, 1 being that there are heaps of BA around and 2 that TE50's are pretty rare. As for the whole power output thing i think someone over at HSV mayb a few for that matter have abit of an ego problem and have to have the power output of every HSV badged on the side so that everytime they get in and out, wash it or look at it they see the 260,280297 or whatever power it has to remind themselves how good they are becuase they are probably so shallow. But they well sell HSV's the hords will buy them so theres no worries there :jab:
