Twin turbo would be cool.

I haven't seen any v8 turbo's for an AU. Seen a few E-Series though. A couple of twin turbo's, 1 a V8, amasing to see and hear on the dyno

I was thinking single turbo. I'd be able to knock up all the manifold and piping work myself, so i was thinkin i could do it reasonably cheaply...possibly a t70

I'm a big fan of turbos but honestly the best option on a V8 AU is a supercharger for a number of reasons.

If you use a single turbo you have two issues - do you run it off one bank and have one head running considerably hotter temps than the other? - or - do you run it off a connected manifold? - which means a very long lead to the turbo which decreases it's effectiveness by a huge amount.

If you use twin turbos you have a space problem - there is already going to be a heat issue under the bonnet - and this will just make it worse as there will be less airspace around just about every thing.

A supercharger will not cause any real space issues or heat issues.

Also the boost from the turbo will be rather "sudden" (max boost by 3000rpm) and will cause an issue with the running gear - the XR8 transmissions are already at their torque handling limits - if you start loading them up they will not last long without quite extensive modifications.

The torque from a supercharger is much more gentle by comparison and max boost is only reached at max revs or thereabouts - the torque boost is more linear as revs rise. You will probably manage with the standard driveline components if you just drive fast but smooth and don't go ape-sheet with gear changes/dropping clutch etc.

Finally I believe an "over the counter" propriety supercharger kit (such as CAPAs for instance) will be cheaper. I don't know of any turbo kits off the shelf for an AU - but that's not to say there aren't any.

If you think you'd run boost off one bank??
You know nothing about turbo's... So why comment??
The crossover pipe would be 150 mm longer than WRX exhaust manifold and one bank on the little boxer is 1 ltr where on 5.0 its obviously 2.5 ..
Power comes in more progessivley on turbo's so block and trans lasts longer..
A beefed up auto or T5 would need changing anyway, even with health 5.6 stroker..
You are also getting the characteristics of a centrifical and possitive dispalcement superchargers in same, Capa sell centrifcal and there low end grant is nothing like the p/d blowers... Where there max rpm is close to max power..If you can weld or know an exhaust guy? The job is easy. A T70, T04z type turbo would work fine....

single turbo V8 EL Ghia in this thread
basically similar to set up to your au's - probably more room in an AU due to the AU's crossmenber design.
