Default Carb rebuilding

My mum has an 88 Telstar AT, the carb in it it pretty useless at the moment, no throttle response and its chewing fuel like a fire. Can anyone help me out with rebuilding it?

Before contemplating a full rebuild, it might be an idea to check that the auto choke is actually working properly. It might be "staying on" - causing the fuel usage/running problems (happened to me once on my TX5)
