Manufacturers pretty much always use flywheel kW, tuners/aftermarket engine shops usually measure output via a wheel driven dyno - saves pulling the engine out.

Here in the US the standard became measured at the output shaft of the transmission with all the accessories (AC, power steering, electrical demand) on, in the 1970's. This is called SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) net.

You can put money on the fact that the flywheel ratings on ford turbos is very conservative. F6's are probably closer to 330fwkw but the company under rates it.

I'd put money on it being more than 330fwkw, some have been going 280-300rwkw from factory on the dyno, using rwhp=fwkw thats 375-400fwkw

just seen this thread and this quote
Quote:
Ford operate on 17% losses through the drive train of the ZF trans and factory LSD ( I asked a guy at FPV and he told me this) - which would make 300 RWKW = 370 RWKW close enough.

I thought that may be the case. I've heard varying rumours that they are far higher than what they are in fords power world.

The question is..... Why do they underate it? Because they would barely sell a GT? I mean that upped power rating would add to the F6's cult following because, (as if it doesnt already) it would certainly steer people clear of that chunky clubsport (chuncky by weight, & chunky by styling). The answer to the "we'll loose more GT sales than we already do, ( : )if we show the real power figures for the F6" statement, is simple, just up the power from 315 on a GT to 340kw. thats only 25 more, which is the same margin they already made over the previous GT.

But I suppose thats all a bit superfolous with the Cyote comming out soon..... Lets hope THAT has 340 straight off the floor.

A few magazines have suggested constant under-quoting of HP figures from Ford. That is why the 310kw F6 is constantly faster than the 317kw GTS.
