Default Crackdown on Victoria's fine evaders as total hits $1.5 billion

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/cr...13-115ivf.html

Am I the only one that thinks that the ruthlessness of government to collect said fines (by and large parking fines of questionable validity) is disgusting?

I think when people have 35k+ in fines, that is disgusting! Forgetting to pay one fine...far enough. Forgetting to pay more than 10... that is not forgetfulness, that is just doing whatever you want because you think you can get away with it!

Cheers

Fines are generally a Gov/council money grab, so I admire these people in a way

I think if your getting that much in fines youve gotta take a serious look at yourself.

I know these are in Brisbane, but I bet there are plenty of these rediculous "fines" by local councils down here too.

Ex supervisor had $30K in traffic fines he was paying off, said back in the day you didn't get points unless you paid them, is on payment plan.

Yeap I got slapped with some parking fine the other week which had the vaguest of descriptions, no actual proper location (just a street name...its a huge street) etc....

I also had an incident in VIC, when I went through Citylink a couple of times in a day. I lost the paper work and didnt get a reminder notice, then I also forgot to call them up..anyway. About $30 in tolls tuned into $400 of late fees....naturally I got a bit angry about it..sort legal advice, then moved state and never got back to it.

Im your typical law abiding citizen...but when its blatant money grabs I do stick to my guns.

I automatically thought this was about PT fares and people not paying those fines. (which is blatant cash grabbing as well - you can pay a fine on the spot on the tram but can't top up your myki? what?)
Goes to show how often I use my car these days
