Default 91 SA CAPRI Starting Problems

Hi all,

My mother has a 91 SA ford capri convertable. The car is a fuel injected model.

The problem is it will go through stages where it will not start through the ignition. It will always clutch start, but wont fire when cranking over.

Then all of a sudden it will start for a few weeks without a problem ??????

Have checked timing, leads, plugs, filters... stumped.

Any ideas?

If it is the 1600 DOHC engine, these had a few issues with coils and distributors. Does the plug lead have spark at it while cranking? Does the engine sound normal when cranking, or does it wind over faster than normal? Could be the valves holding open as well if it has the wrong oil in it too. Just a thought, would need more info.

Default starting problem

Hi BOOSTDEF, sounds to me like one of two things. : Could be ring gear, take starter motor and check ring gear.Other battery leads positive to sm and bat, negative cable both ends.Im on southside not far from Indro,if want pm me, will see what happens. daveant65 it very well could be starter motor solenoid is sticking in at times.See how you both get on.
