Default $165,000 for new LS9 HSV

Journalists always manage to compare HSV's with Lambos and Porsches.

"Fewer than 250 expected to be built" Yeah no kidding. With just over half that number of W427's being made i would think HSV would probably aim for around 100 builds, if it all truly goes ahead.

They could easily sell 250 ... it will be the last ever high performance Commodore.

If only Ford would use it as motivation to send the Falcon off with a HO ......

I hope they build it...............300 plus units to meet genuine demand, and I will probably put my hand up for one.

This is the literally the best Commodore that will ever exist. Going out with a massive bang, and the fans are sure to love it. Heck, if I could afford it I'd be getting in an order asap. Think of it this way, the GTS-R (They are calling it that right?) will literally be the last ever aussie car model to ever be made, and that alone is a big thing.

On the topic of being the same cost as a porche etc. Well, it's a completely different kind of car. For people who don't know two things about cars and go after cars like they go after designer gear they'll see the GTS-R as simply a Holden, a brand associated with bogans and nothing prestigious. But that's nothing new tbh.

That's a lot of coin for an extra 45kW...

I would've thought it would make more sense to tweak the LSA and get these into the low 100 bracket?!

The article actually says more than $165K, if that's true I wouldn't expect any change from $200K once on the road.
It would want to have a lot more than just an extra 45kw for that money.
Too rich for me.

Pretty fitting send off, as (from a vauge memory) the original GTS was "corvette powered", and holden marketed them as such...

Good on HSV. I think it will be the second fastest sedan sold in this country after the RS7 and equal fourth fastest in the world with the its LS9 powered Cadillac cousin - only trailing behind the aforementioned RS7, AWD Mercedes-Benz E63 and Dodge Charger Hellcat.

History say no. $165k+ reduces the field quite quickly. You're now talking C63s money. There is a lot of fine machinery at that price. Anyway the number I heard was 100 units. With only 63 HSV dealers you needed have had your deposit down long ago.

Hemi
you say $165k the world has gone mad
cast your mind back to the first Commodore it cost $6900
and we thought that was expensive for a little car

HSV doesn't know how to modify motors for more power, they have just been a crate motor company for years

Will be a sic aussie car though, the best even

Interesting, good on HSV for doing it though. Unsure about the price but i wonder the engineering effort to fit that engine in reliably. I remember reading the W427 with the dry sumped engine was quite an effort to do.

I really wish Ford would do this as well with a GT-HO, but we answer to the stuck up Americans and they don't let us do anything, because we might disturb their business.

Would be funny though, because more people would cry about the XR Sprints being the last Falcon when the GT-HO would come in. Haha.
Imagine if someone bought the FGX XR8, then traded that for the FGX XR8 Sprint and then would have to do it again for some change to get the FGX GT-HO. I'd laugh. Hehe

Even if they just made 50 units, I just want to see them get one up over Holdens ugly Commodores.

Would still buy the Sprint and keep my $100k + then spend $20k to fully mod the Sprint and go on nice o/strip.

Nice of Holden putting them out of reach or 'normal' Australians, thankfully Ford didn't do that.

A HO (in both terms, lol) would be nice but would only be for those who could afford it, least the XR8 & Sprint are within reach.

I agree, I don't believe that dropping in an American based motor makes the commodore any more the last most powerful "Australian" model, it's a shame they could not have developed such a unit locally like the Barra 6, they may as well have dropped in a Lamborghini V12, IMO it losses its heritage..

It's not just about the power. For $165k it's still a lot of power. Remember the $250k M5 has 423kw and 680nm. The GTS-R will have 485kw and 840Nm. What will really make it worth $165k is the technology and how it handles. No point having that much power if you can't put it down. I would expect an overhauled chassis, latest suspension, upgraded brakes, upgraded transmission (8spd auto possibly)

Plus it's the name that people will pay for too. The last hoorah for the commodore.

If you are just approaching the equation from the "price per kw" point of view, then you may as well buy a new LSA Clubsport for $85 and spend $30k and you will have a 600kw animal.

If it has all the stuff you mentioned it would be worth the money (doubt that it will though), but if it's nothing more than the motor upgrade the $$$$'s aren't worth it IMHO.

So, if Ford put the Voodoo engine (and hopefully revised the handling) into a Falcon and charged 140k....it's ok?
