Just got an email back from the seller for the ones I linked above - standard brightness at all times, they don't dim at all when headlights are on.

Hi Rik,

Why wouldn't you want the DRLs to just extinguish when the headlights are active?

This is a simpler fix than wanting them to dim, but that is achievable too - rather more complicated though.

It also depends on how the DRL's are organised, if there are 6 LEDs in a lamp I'd be guessing a simple series connection, but it might be a more complicated arrangement as the simple series connection will extinguish if any of the LEDs becomes an open circuit fault.

If you want more detail then PM me as I don't want to clutter the thread with technical detail.

Cheers

P.S. I generally don't like DRLs as they are far too intensive for my liking and are as bad as badly fitted driving lights where fog lamps ought to be.

Hey Alan, I want them to function as the Factory ones do, which means dim out when headlights are on not extuinguish totally.

However, I've gone and spent some money today...
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=150848333230

The seller reckons there's a wire which you can connect which will dim/extinguish the DRL when the headlights are on, or if you don't connect it, it runs them full brightness at all times.

Now we begin the long wait for postage...

Edit: and these work out as one of the cheapest sets on eBay as well, they come to US$195 including postage, most of the others are around US$200 without postage.

Waiting on the edge of my seat! Someone had to be the test case...

Let us know how the install goes!

If you find a link on how to remove the front bar I would be interested in that as I am looking to get the DRL's also.

If you find that they turn off or stay on when headlights are activated, there is an adaptor on ebay.co.uk that will actually "dim" the lights to replicate the OEM look. However they say they do not ship outside UK / EU.

I would love to have the OEM functionality...

Keep us up to date!!!

Here is the ebay link; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/230831249...84.m1423.l2649

If anyone has connections in UK, I would be keen to get this as they are not shipping outside UK / EU.

Will happily be the guinea pig for this one, I think I said back in May I was going to order these things and get them in, well, I took my time but they're on the way - got a tracking number today. Will probably take a couple of weeks to arrive, then will have to tee up with my mate a time to do the install, but as we do the install I'll take plenty of photos and make sure to do a bit of a write up the best I can.

As for that GenLabs box to dim the DRLs factory style - very interesting, and I'm very interested in one. As it happens, a work colleague has a daughter living in the UK, so I may even be able to tee up ordering one posted to her, and give her a little extra cash to post from UK to Australia.

Anyway, all is just speculation at the moment, we'll wait and see how we go when they finally arrive.

Like most Mondeo's are the looms already there and just need to be connected up (if this has been answered previously, sorry).

If that is seriously the case, its going to make life a lot more easy & fun with the installation. I really do hope you're right!

It should be correct. I have found this with many other makes. If you can get a wiring diagram is should show you the looms and colours to look for.

As there is quite a bit of interest in this topic, I wonder if the mods could merge the three (3) current / active threads into one? I just thought we could all get value out of everyone elses experiences / ideas around this topic. Am I asking the right thing here or is there another way to get the threads merged?

Sure is.

Send a pm to a moderator quoting the thread IDs and request a merge.

Generally, if the moderator thinks a merge is warranted it is likely to happen.

Similar technique for closing/locking a thread.

Cheers

Yeah they're coming from China.

I've been away since Wednesday though, will double check and follow everything up later.

Well well well - looky what arrived for me today

(Actually, arrived on the 17th, but I was away and only got a chance to pick them up from the post office today).

They seem decent quality build wise, don't feel too flimsy, and they also come with a little black box to wire them up with (I assume its to dim/off them when the headlights go on).

Like everything made in China I'd have guessed plastic, they look OK though and who else but the Chinese would manufacture all these aftermarket goodies for us to tart up our cars with

They seem to be a plastic mate.

Stay tuned anyway. I have tomorrow off work but doubt I'll get to them, gotta work this weekend but perhaps next weekend I'll get them in. I'm pretty excited though, can't wait to get them installed!

Actually the holes are in the bumper, would an MC bumper bolt straight on to an MA?

Thanks TomJones, although not too keen on the part about removing the bumper. Guess we'll see how I go on Sunday when I will hopefully get a chance to do my install!

Hey OPE126,

Had a look. The fuse box located at the front right of the engine bay as you look at it, if you take the cover off, mostly shows fuses and relays. To the right of that fuse box, there are some cables attached to a harness within the fuse box. Look at the right hand sided harness and you will see two green cables. It is here, I tapped into the green cables with the yellow cable from the DRLs. Simply put an electrical male connector on to the yellow cable and pushed it home and beside of green cables. (there is room). This is your ignition. I have taken photos but I have no idea how to upload to forum. If you can tell me how to do it, I will upload them. If it makes things easier, you can PM me. I'll send you them via e mail and you can upload them onto site if you wish.

Hi Tom

This is how I add photos.
1. Sign up for dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/
2. follow the instructions to upload to the Public folder
3. right click the uploaded file and "copy public link" to the file
4. use that link in the insert image option when posting
hope this helps.
