Anyway its a really rare one apparently, he had a heap of paperwork on it that claims this was one of only two 427's out of the factory.

Unfortunately it no longer had the 427 in it, it was given a GT 351 (his words). It was a Ford executives car and when he sold it they took the 427 out. Something along those lines.

It was in pretty rough shape but not diabolical, better than chicken coop. Had VIC plates with it XB 000 or something like that.

Anyway I'm sure we'll see it listed soon on Grays Online.

Sounds like one of Wayne Drapers cars. Or Peter Arcadapine. 2 Ford designers who did all sorts of cool stuff with hardtops. Including putting big blocks in them. And racing against each other on the steets.

They were 429's though. And they weren't a factory fitment technically. Cars were built with 351's and the big blocks were fitted later on.

There was an article in Aust Muscle car magazine Issue 30 on these cars back in 2007, This thread gave more info on them. I'll still have that magazine here somewhere.. WD110 would be Wayne Drapers car.

Agreed.
They are also washing the car from bottom to top...
The bottom section will always be dirtier than the top.
Leaving the foam on the ground is disappointing for a company in the detailing industry

By the looks of things, Finch Restorations look like a pretty swish operation.

"....fine quality craftsmanship and service from enthusiastic people with integrity and experience in this specialised field..."

Even though the thing is probably going to be re-painted, the lack of attention to detail washing that car is not a good look.

the thing is getting a full restoration, it wouldn't matter if you washed it with a handful of wet pebbles.

The sponge on the ground at the end was for effect. If you want to complain about the sponge why weren’t they using a micro fibre sponge. Why wasn’t the car given a snow job.

If you look at the prices of classic cars overseas, the original looking barn find ones have become more desirable and worth more than restored ones.
Not that it's any business of mine questioning the owner, but you have to wonder if they are 'ruining' it by stripping it all back and making it concourse.
Personally I would just fix up the mechanicals and get it roadworthy, then go cruising.

In most cases yes, but if this car has been gathering dust for years and years, the top of the car is more likely to be covered in thicker dust than the bottom of it.

Bit of a shame its getting a restoration, especially when they tend to go overboard and restore them to the pointof being a delivery only kilometers car

I take no pleasure in telling this story, but, a Holden guy at work (who happens to own an unmolested 60's Falcon) stored his Holden (no I don't know what it was) in his father-in[out]-law's barn... Bad weather came though, the cows were brought inside, the car was damaged by the cow hooves. Quite badly apparently.

Ok, a couple of us chuckled a little. So sue me.

I too, watched the teaser. There was something unsettling about it. A bit like 19th century anthropology, with the exhibiting of “specimens” both alive and preserved.

I feel its soul left when the hammer fell; we are left with a vessel that is wholly spent, having fulfilled its life. The best it can now be is a monument to idolatry.

It needs way more than a bit of mechanical work, the old girl has her fair share of cancer, these things were born with it......

Some of the rust in the boot that was found from just opening the boot lid, the only way to save her is a full strip & resto, there is no half way.

I'm all for mint survivors being detailed and used as is to preserved their originality, however in this case I'm very pleased to see the new owner electing a full restoration by what appears to be a reputable and capable outfit. The years haven't been too kind to her and the cancer is no doubt more than superficial.

As we know, as an RPO83 it's a very special car and as such, deserves to step out in it's Sunday best.

Besides, if I was lucky enough to own this car, I couldn't drive it with that dodgy black stripe down the side!
